[You all remember Hector, of course. The ass who's torn apart most of the folks who've asked stupid questions? And has been highly offended at the assumptions about the way he speaks? Well, he's just come upon a thought that struck him out of the blue, and really, in his opinion you just might want to pay attention.
But hoo boy, does he sound full of schadenfreude. Because he is.]
Just as an aside, as that execution do bring some things to mind. At least for meself, as I'm a bit more versed in the laws and rules of the sea...
You do realize, o'course, with your sailing and bartering without proper papers - letters o' marque or otherwise granting you permission to do such from a nation - you are all, in fact, committing acts of piracy, aye?
No papers, no authority to conduct yourself as a legitimate crew. No authority, of course, to organize yourself in a militaristic force. You aren't privateers. You aren't merchants, and you aren't treasure hunters.
You're pirates. Piss poor excuses for pirates, I'll grant ye that, but not a single soul brought to this place has authority to do anything. You're conducting in black market trade, operating a craft that is not, in fact, registered in any home port, and not a single one among ye has a place ye make berth.
This, of course, does include our little ship full o'sparkle and light in the name of justice et cetera, et cetera.
Pirates, the lot of you. Every last one of you be staring at Jack Ketch, waiting to be the next to dance the jig. No matter your noble intentions.

[The journal sits in Kaito's lap, propped open but turned to an empty page, for quite some time before he actually starts writing in it.]
A death sentence seems like a bit much for the crime of piracy, huh. . . tch. And they're supposed to be the law enforcement of this world? Gimme a break. Some law enforcement that is.
[Someone is highly against killing as a form of punishment, if that much wasn't obvious. His existing bias against law enforcement doesn't help matters, either]
Everyone, be careful out there, yeah?
[He flips a page when he's done writing, and starts a completely new entry, but not before asking his journal politely to filter it to those on his crew]
( Private to The Shepherd crew )

Apparently a lot of people here come from different worlds. Well, that's fine. But there are things that people from every world should know about.
[If there's an undertone of "how the hell can you not know about these things?!", it's because Rin is thinking exactly that.]
The Olympic Games are the most important sporting event in the world. Hundreds of nations send their best athletes to compete against each other. Every four years, there's a Summer Olympics, and every four years there's a Winter Olympics. The Winter Olympics features sports like skiing and skating, while the Summer Olympics has things like wrestling, archery, and swimming.
I'll find those ruby shards and go home, because it's my dream to swim in the Olympics. No Davy Jones or Scurvey Dog can keep me from that goal - and neither can any of you.
[Priorities. Rin has them.
Of course, if your character has things from their own world that they feel everyone should know aboutand that are probably far more important than the Olympics, they're welcome to add them to the discussion.]

[ Here, have yet another audio entry from another female newcomer to your lovely sea. Despite what you'd think, however, she's rather...calm? If she's nervous, it certainly doesn't show in her voice. ]
Hello, everyone. I do hope I'm using this correctly. My name is Chiaki Nanami, and I... Mm, I was originally on an island with other Hope's Peak Academy students. Please send me a private message if that means anything to you. I'd really, really appreciate it.
[ Now that that bit of important business is out of the way, time to move on to the next thing on the to-do list. ]
As for why we were brought here...I understand what's expected of us. ...I think. We're supposed to put together that broken gem, right? And to do that, we need to sail around the ocean to find its shards. Just like collecting Power Stars. Enough of them, and we can move on to the next level.
[ That thought makes her pause for a moment. ]
...I wonder if they're actually shards? Like, could they be embedded somewhere? There are games where animals were corrupted by a shard of such a gem, turning them against the party. That...wouldn't be pleasant. I hope that's not the case.
[ ...Right, to-do list. She clears her throat once before continuing. ]
I'm going to add to the number of people asking if they can join a ship's crew. I don't have any experience on ships, but I can draw maps and keeps detailed logs and records as necessary. I also know how to clean rooms and search areas thoroughly. And...I'll leave at that for now, since this is getting rather long. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
[ And with that said, she closes the journal. ]

I don't know what kind of sick joke this is, but it ends here.
[Scared? Who's scared? Certainly not Rin. He's pissed off, and that's the most you'll get out of him. Even if it is kind of creepy, watching the words he speaks appear in the journal.]
You've had your laugh. Tell your friends all about your lame prank. I bet you're really proud. But I'm going back, now.
Can't believe I'm talking to a -...
[Dammit, it wasn't supposed to record that as well. There's an audible tch before he snaps the journal shut.]

Dear obviously magically possessed evil journal thing,
Father always told me not to write in cursed diaries like this. Actually, it was a pretty specific rule of his which suggests this can only end badly. Especially considering I've seen that this one writes back, and with exceptionally bad grammar, at that.
But I suppose it's not as though this entire situation could get any worse anyway because I DON'T HAVE A BLOODY CLUE WHERE I AM.
Evidently I'm to look at a fountain and get on a ship?? Which is stupid. All of this is stupid, honestly, whoever it was that slipped me a bad Portkey is being turned into a frog when I get home.
Why a ship, anyway? Surely brooms are much faster.
Muggles. The whole lot of them are clueless.

[ Madoka's voice comes over the journal singing!! ]
Happy birthday to me~! Happy birthday to me~!
Happy birthday [ ........ nope too shy to go on. She cuts herself off with giggles at and is almost audibly covering her face. She still sounds pretty pleased though; ] Ah, never mind, forget that! It's too embarrassing!
But, back when everyone was still at Isla Empieza, did anyone see somewhere that might have cake? Just a small one would be fine...

[After the escape from Yuezhong -- for those on the Spade Pirates crew, he's on watch up in the crow's nest. Things seem calm at the moment, though, which means he's a liiiiittle bored, so have some random jotted down thoughts.]
Well, definitely didn't pick a boring crew to join. And here I thought I knew how to stir up trouble quickly. Then again, traveling from world to world before, I learned how to keep a low profile, too.
Guess that's not happening here. Can't complain, though. Things are good.
The sea's really quiet tonight...
Watching the ocean like this feels like I'm back home again.
[You'll hear a faint splash suddenly, and there's a pause before the writing starts up again, this time accompanied by Riku's muttered voice:]
.......Except we didn't have fish that big. Or—what is that? Is that a whale??

[The text that appears on the page is written in a very elegant handwriting.]
Greetings. My name is Mami Tomoe.
I'm looking for a crew who'd accept two more people on their board. Or for four to six people who would be willing to form a crew with us.
If you know anyone else in the same situation, please tell them to contact me.
As was said before, it's not safe for us to say on the island for too long. Our presence seems to be highly bothering the Natives living here, and there is no point for us in uselessly angering them. [They might need their help in the future after all.]
Thanks in advance for your attention and assistance.
Oh... and I'm looking for tea as well. [She figures that while she's at it, she might as well.]
Thanks.

I think it goes without saying, but Scurvey Dog wasn't kidding about the natives having serious problems with us if we hadn't left in time. Perhaps pitchforks were a little bit of an exaggeration for the moment, but I'm getting a lot of glares from everyone. If I'm here much longer, I'm afraid there might be blood - he wasn't kidding that they're on edge about their missing person. I'm going to finish gathering supplies and keep a low profile until I can get off this island. If there's anyone left on Isla Empieza, I advise you do the same - they might not be so kind to anyone that looks like they could take some abuse.
Mana, do we have a plan yet? The clock's ticking, and fast.

I have a question for everyone here.
We're supposed to go sailing, but how does someone willingly go on a ship with so many different people, when doing so could put the people in your crew at risk? How do you live so closely with that many other people when just being near them could be dangerous for them?
[ The penmanship looks really old-fashioned, but still perfectly legible. It's clear this person hasn't seen anything written in a long time, but thankfully, writing is like riding a bicycle. It's not something anyone forgets how to do. There's SOME voices in the background, but it's distant and muffled. Whoever is writing this went to great lengths to avoid others. ]

- Booze
- So much shitty booze
- Wine
- Cornmeal
- Rice
- Meat
- Meat
- Fucking more meat — dammit, Luffy
- Lemons / Limes
- Oranges...
- Nami-san ♡
[The start of what looks like a grocery list abruptly cuts off as 1) Sanji gets...distracted, and 2) he remembers this isn't just scrap paper and other people will see it. Shit. He skips further down the page.]
So...how many of you guys getting ready to set sail actually know what the hell to do once you're out at sea?
And how many of you stocked up properly, fucking hell.

[ Conan hadn't yet bothered with writing in the journal, deciding that he'd instead wait and merely flip through the pages. When he'd discovered that they could broadcast what was written in them into other journals he was, naturally, intrigued. There had to be a logical explanation for it, after all. ]
[ Finally, he puts his fountain pen to the page and writes. ]
I came across something interesting and I'm wondering how deep it goes. So, I'm going to list a few things, let me know if they are familiar to you:
Sherlock Holmes
Kogoro Akechi
Al Capone
Interpol
FBI
The Maltese Falcon
The Roman Empire
Arsène Lupin
Kaitou Kid
The Eiffel Tower
Tokyo Tower
Mount Everest
Snow Woman
Coffee Pot
Forensic Science
DNA
Showa Era

[So! How are you settling in, new arrivals? Have you interrogated the locals yet? Certainly you must have flipped through your journals by now though, only to find them completely and utterly empty.]
[Well. Completely and utterly empty until, sometime closer to evening, someone finally decides to write in theirs]

[. . . er. Well, draw instead of write, it seems. Though underneath the crudely drawn image is some scratched text, written in Kaito's sloppy handwriting]
Future note to self: pirates hate magic. And soap. They definitely hate soap.
[Someone hasn't figured out these things can be used to communicate with others yet]
