[After the escape from Yuezhong -- for those on the Spade Pirates crew, he's on watch up in the crow's nest. Things seem calm at the moment, though, which means he's a liiiiittle bored, so have some random jotted down thoughts.]

Well, definitely didn't pick a boring crew to join. And here I thought I knew how to stir up trouble quickly. Then again, traveling from world to world before, I learned how to keep a low profile, too.

Guess that's not happening here. Can't complain, though. Things are good.

The sea's really quiet tonight...

Watching the ocean like this feels like I'm back home again.

[You'll hear a faint splash suddenly, and there's a pause before the writing starts up again, this time accompanied by Riku's muttered voice:]

.......Except we didn't have fish that big. Or—what is that? Is that a whale??

If that's what it was... I'm not sure! It was really big, though.

Even seeing a giant fish would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I guess. Last time I saw a whale or fish or—whatever as big as that one out there is, it swallowed my friend's gummi ship whole.

You've seen one before? That's so cool...

But what's a gummi ship? (Sorry!)

He was called Monstro. You like whales?

Oh, it's...a type of ship that flies through space. They can get you from world to world.

Someone warned us about sea monsters?

[Well Riku's crew was sort of occupied at the time.]

It was in scurvy Dog's last entry squeezed in between weather reports and news. Someone messed up about asking for decent details but Dog did let slip sailing away as fast as you can if you spot the sea boiling.

Oh, that guy. He didn't actually mean boiling, did he? Just, what, when the water starts churning or something?

[Slight pause as he peers out at the ocean.]

Hm, hard to tell when it's dark like this.

It... kinda looked like a whale, but.... [Sounds completely shocked.]

Then again, it didn't seem very... whale-like, did it? [Best descriptive words, ever.]

You saw it, too?

I can't tell, I can't make it out very well. I think I saw some fins, though. Maybe.

Yeah... I was just under the crow's nest. [As he's saying that, he's moving to the railing, and looking up to wave--but he's soon turning back towards where the monster fish thing was.]

I think I saw some, too! [He pauses.] I wonder if we'll see even more strange creatures out here! [He sounds ...rather excited about that idea.]

Maybe. Apparently there was something mentioned about sea monsters recently?

Wait. Sea monsters? [He's going to glance back up at Riku with a slightly surprised expression. Maybe he should be keeping up with the journal better...?After a second, though, he's just going to give a '...well. what can we do except fight them.' look.]

...Guess that wouldn't be the craziest thing we've ever fought. [He smiles and shrugs a tiny bit, tilting his head to the side.]

[He sees the young man up on the mast while the Doctor's come out for a bit of fresh air. Riku isn't one of the shipmates he's really talked to, and that's something he intends to fix that. Up the rigging he goes pretty easily and peeks over the top.]

Hallo! I'm the Doctor, and I don't think we've been suitably introduced. Hope you don't mind a bit of company.

[Blinks, a little startled at his sudden appearance, but recovers quickly!]

Right, hi. [Slight grin.] You're right, it's kind of sad we've been sailing together for weeks and haven't really talked. I'm Riku.

[Scoots to the side a bit, making room for him.]

So...just the Doctor, that's it?

[He hops up into the crow's nest then, all lanky limbs and such, letting his long coat drape around him as he takes a seat.]

That's right, just the Doctor. It's nice to meet you, Riku.

[He offers a hand for a shake, typical Earth fashion and all that. Yessir!]

[Shakes his hand, then sits back and rests his arms over his propped up knees, giving the Doctor a curious look.]

Are you a medical doctor?

I'm a bit of an everything sort of doctor. Medicine, physics, math, engineering, chemistry, all that sort of stuff.

[He flashes a winning grin.]

I'm probably the most brilliant sort on this whole planet.
