[After the escape from Yuezhong -- for those on the Spade Pirates crew, he's on watch up in the crow's nest. Things seem calm at the moment, though, which means he's a liiiiittle bored, so have some random jotted down thoughts.]

Well, definitely didn't pick a boring crew to join. And here I thought I knew how to stir up trouble quickly. Then again, traveling from world to world before, I learned how to keep a low profile, too.

Guess that's not happening here. Can't complain, though. Things are good.

The sea's really quiet tonight...

Watching the ocean like this feels like I'm back home again.

[You'll hear a faint splash suddenly, and there's a pause before the writing starts up again, this time accompanied by Riku's muttered voice:]

.......Except we didn't have fish that big. Or—what is that? Is that a whale??

[Raises an eyebrow.]

And so modest, too.

[He sounds amused, though.]

So how did you end up with Ace?

Why be modest when it's simply the truth?

[He grins and leans back on his hands, looking up at the sky. Why had he agreed to go with Ace?]

That...well, that's a good question. He's a decent sort, and he agreed to all my conditions. A touch violent for my tastes, as Yuezhong showed us, but his heart's in the right place. And he's got the right mix of people on board, I think.

Why did you choose him over some other ship?

Fair enough.

[Laughs a bit.]

Right? Punching people out of nowhere like that... But given he was already a pirate, maybe we shouldn't have been surprised. His fire stuff was pretty cool, though, huh?

[He shrugs, resting his head back against the crow's nest.]

Sora chose the ship, I just came with him. He, uh. He has a tendency to talk to everyone. I don't so much. And he's usually a pretty good judge of character, so he said these guys and I just went with it. I would've been okay if just the two of us had set out, too, but this is probably better.

He's certainly interesting, and he's got a good reason for it. Not my style, really but then...I'm certainly not fond of the attitude of those so called nobles. I can't argue with the why, but I'd like it if he'd rein it in for a little while. We could've picked that place apart and ended slavery for good without too much difficulty and a plan. And without violence, at that.

[So confident, but then...it's what he does. He helps people and fixes problems.]

Sora? Is that the other young man on board? I haven't really had much chance to talk to him either.

Ended...slavery? I'm all for that, but I don't really think it's something we could've accomplished in one visit. [CONFIDENT INDEED...Riku just kind of gives him an appraising look.] You seem really sure, though.

Yeah, that's him. Spiky hair, smiles a lot. [Automatic fond tone as he talks about him.] I'm surprised you haven't, he usually gets around pretty quickly. Then again, he's been pretty worried about Natsuno lately, that might have him distracted.

Well, yeah? It's nothing I haven't done before...[He chuckles] No reason to doubt that it's impossible here too. But then we're on a mission already.

And I guess I've just been a bit of a recluse. I haven't met Natsuno either. But why's he worried? What's wrong?

[Wow. This guy is something else.]

Well, I guess if we ever go back there... [Chuckles.] Get with Sora, he's used to rescuing worlds, too. You're right, though, crazy ghost treasure hunt might have to come first.

Natsuno... [Frowns slightly.] He's a vampire? We only just met him back at that first island, but he was in the middle of trying to get someone to kill him. And Sora has a saving people thing. So.

Right, well, we'll make it happen when we have the time. Not going back there for a while though, not with the hornets nest all stirred up, no sir. Not a good idea.

[Because, y'know...Ace hadn't given him much time.]

A vampire you say? A real, honest to goodness, bloodsucking vampire? Wow. Oh wow! I haven't run into one of those in ages! And you say he was trying to get killed? Did he say why? Curse getting to him? Immortality and all that?

Yeah, definitely not.

[Raises an eyebrow. So enthusiastic, Doctor!]

Uh...as far as I know? Definitely yes to the bloodsucking, I think that was one of the reasons he was trying to kill himself. He was worried about hurting others, and...there was something about how he should be dead already anyway... I think he hasn't been a vampire for very long, though, but I might be wrong there.

Ah...coping syndrome then. Happens to them sometimes. Yep....

[He strokes his chin, thoughtful.]

Maybe with time and a lot of wires I can rig up something to make it so he won't have to hurt people to survive. That could be a good project...yeah...

...I'm not sure what you could manage with wires, but. If it ends up being helpful, I'm sure he'd appreciate it? To be honest, I haven't talked to him much since that whole first episode.

Oh, lots of things. Wires, Riku, are the things that make things work. Pretty much anything, really. Well...except time travel. And maybe a good deep fryer.

Time...travel. [Blinks.] Is that a thing you do?

Ayup. What else would a Time Lord do?

I wasn't aware you were one...thought you were a doctor, Doctor.

Is there anything you can't do?

Now you're just being cheeky. I'm a Time Lord. That's what I am. My species, if you want to think of it that way. I'm not human.

And no, no there isn't. Except maybe a few things, but nothing important really.

[Quick grin.]

I do that.

That's not a species I've heard of, though, you definitely look human.

Wrong. You look Time Lord. We came first.

And no, I wouldn't expect you to have, honestly. There aren't many of us, after all. I'm the last one. And...we never did much travelling between realities.

[Oh, well that's new and different from anything he was ever taught. Buuut there are a lot of strange things between all the different worlds, so it's easy enough to accept.]

Huh. I didn't know. But—can't you travel back to a time when there were more of you? And couldn't they come to the future? Or...present, I guess.

No. [His voice changes, suddenly distant, maybe even a little cold.]

That's not possible. Not anymore.

[Whoa. Riku's eyes widen a bit.]

...Right, sorry. That was a dumb question.

No such thing. Just...it's complicated.

Ah, gotcha. I'm familiar with complicated.

Yeah. Good. Complicated...

[Already distracted...]

[WELL, Riku isn't really one to pry, so...he'll just wait this one out for a moment, though he does watch the Doctor curiously -- and somewhat warily.]
