What do you guys do when you start to miss home? Or... worry about the people and the responsibilities you left behind, even though everything is supposed to be all right?

[Everyone's in the same situation, so Korra doesn't feel so weird admitting that she's missing home. She's lucky, she realizes, that she has friends that she made both at home and here to keep her company. But still...

It's not home.]

I stop dwelling on it and move on. What's happened has happened and I can't change the past. I can only guide my future and what I do here. So as much as I care, I stop dwelling on it, I stop thinking about it. When I start to, I distract myself with something else. Something I can do right now. I make those my new worries and the others will eventually fade into the fog.

It's going to take a while, but it will happen.

Punch something. Several times or until it's destroyed, whatever happens first. And then I move on and throw it all to the back until there's something about it that I can actually do. You'll end driving yourself mad and killed otherwise.

Clean the ship, check the food stores, practice.

[Captain of distraction. Easy for him to say though, all his people and most of his responsibilities are here.]

Make plans for landfall.

Can't you just punch things without bending some element? Or bending water instead of fire?

[A sigh.]

I know the feeling. I'm used to not be with the people I have a duty for, but usually it's on my own terms and I'm capable of checking on them with my Cosmo. Can't you just distract yourself with the friends from there that are here?

[He honestly has no idea if that would serve for anything or make matters worse.]

I don't think there's much you can do.

[That doesn't really answer Korra's question but]

[And he was about to suggest transporting extra supplies between ships on one of the dippers, too.

Did he just get another nickname?]

Find new responsibilities here, it's what I've been doing. [But that's not exactly easy for Korra.] Maybe you could ask Ace about making an in-ship swimming pool.

Then come punch me if you want. Fire and punches never bothered me anyway.

[It's a serious offer as well. Serious and very real, though he doubts many people here would really get it, because apparently offering yourself to help someone release pent up stress is crazy.]

This is just an idea, but what about asking that store clerk? She often has all kinds of rare things, maybe she can get her hands on something magical that would allow you to see them, even if you can't talk to them. Or even just a picture, it's obviously not the same thing but right now you have nothing like that, right?

It's better to be used to moving forward then to be stuck in past. You'll never get anywhere if you stay behind. It doesn't mean forgetting, or giving up. Just... not letting it hold you back.

It's easy for me, but I know everybody else feels differently. [Because of the whole rotting corpse issue.]

I dunno. Worrying is fine--if you can't do anything about it, that sucks, but I wouldn't dismiss it and say everything'll be alright. You just gotta push to get back.

I usually remember that the situation back home is a hell of a lot worse than the one I'm in now.

[Asami gives a light sigh back. Sorry Korra, this kinda stuff has been riddling her mind lately and she feels acting like Sokka sort helpless about it at the moment]

It's fine. I just wish I knew what was going on back home with...you know, everything.

[The whole business thing]

If you want it can be a spar, yes. Or I can just stand there as you swing punches at me, either is fine.

[He also has a lot of stress to release, but he's way too used to keeping it bottled. Even if this world likes to test how much he can hold. And right now, he's focusing on Korra so he doesn't care about his own.]

I'll hope that she can indeed. It's that or you getting sucked by a whirlpool again and if that were to happen it would better not spit you back here again then.

[There is a pause before he hurriedly adds something, fearing that she may take his words in a different way than they were meant.]

Not that I don't want you around or anything, it's just that if you're going to be taken home I think it's better if you're allowed to stay where you belong.

Then find a way to see them. Do something about it.

Hold out hope that this nonsense about shards is true. And the only thing we can do is work toward our goal.

From what I've gathered through the journals, those that have been temporarily blessed with the opportunity to go home continue their life as normal at the point they return. That's one of the few saving graces I can think of.
