Bored, huh? Not sure what a cruiseliner, casino, or poker are, but... Why not go for a swim? I understand it's a challenge for humans to keep up with sailing ships.

[yeah Thash, cuz Faye is totally the kind of person who thinks getting wet and swimming at a strenuously fast speed for no reason besides exercise is fun]

Or, uh... Don't humans like fishing? [he actually thought fishing was pretty boring. Why sit there with a fishing pole when you could dive in, swim up behind the fish, and chomp down on it?]

Sometimes I really wonder if you know what anything is.

*But not said too meanly, anyway*

Ha! You want me to swim and try catch up with my ship? In that ocean? I said I was bored, Thash, not suicidal.

...Fishing? That's still just sitting around, but with a stick.

Pff, well I could just help you catch up if you fall behind. But yeah I agree, fishing is boring. Hmm, too bad our weapons aren't more compatible at training with each other, that would be sort of fun. What is poker anyway? [he thought the word was kind of funny. Like a game where you poke people]

Yeah...I don't want to end up like my poor pet unicorn, after all.

It's a game you play using a deck of cards. Money prizes too - you know what gambling is, right?

*She didn't mean to sound rude, but there were lots of things he didn't seem to know about*

[well, he didn't know what poker was due to a lack of social interaction with humans, but cruiseliners and casinos didn't even exist in his world. He'd heard of gambling before, though he didn't know about it in much detail]

Gambling is where you pay a lot of money to play a game and hope you win some back even though there's a small chance of it, right? I've seen humans play with cards, too. Well I dknt have a lot of money but if you taught me how to play poker, I'd be willing to play with you just to pass the time. I understand if it's less interesting without money though...

[he tried to think of something else fun to do, but most think he considered fun required being able to breathe underwater or enjoy exercise]

It's too bad humans can't dive deep, there's a lot of cool stuff in the water...

That is exactly what gambling is. It's exciting, you should try it. I'll show you some games - it'd be good to have someone around to play with. Otherwise I risk getting rusty.

Oh yeah? Bring me something.

*Since she couldn't go down there herself, why not have him bring her something as proof?*

Okay. I just went for a swim this morning and found something cool. I'll meet you in a bit.

[about 10 minutes later, she'd hear a knock at her door]

*Faye looked up from where she was sitting on her bed, a towel round her head and a nail file in her hand*

Come in. It's open.

[Thash opened the door and took a couple steps into the room. He had something in his hand but it was hard to see at the moment. He looked at Faye questioningly for a second before giving a small laugh] why do you have a towel on your head?

*Faye frowned at the laughter and put her nail file aside, patting the towel to make sure it didn't fall off*

Because I like to be clean and I washed my hair. It's really not that funny.

*Still, she noticed that he seemed to be holding something, so she moved over on the bed to allow him place to sit*

[he thought it looked kinda funny in a cute way, but seeing she didn't like his laughing, he stopped. He sat next to her and held up the object. It was an interesting shell- it was like a clam with two sides that opened and closed but the top side was way bigger. It was light blue with darker blue stripes and little spikes around the rim that got bigger at the sides, up to an inch and a half long]

This shell has unusual colors...and if someone pisses you off, you could stab them with the spikes!

[he handed it to her]

*She didn't mind it too much, and knew he probably didn't mean anything bad by it, but she wasn't one that enjoyed laughing at herself too much. She did brighten up when she saw the shell, leaning in to take a better look*

Oh, that is pretty. Did you find it just floating around?

*Faye reached out to take it, then turned it over carefully in her hands*

No, it was close to an old sunken mast on the sea floor covered in coral and seaweed. Some spindly crustacean pried it open and ate it, so I thought I might as well not let the shell go to waste.

[he looked back down at it]

So, it that a gift that will help your health? [it was barely perceptible but it almost sounded like he might be joking]

*Faye looked it over carefully, smiling as she leaned to put it on the tiny table she seemed to be using as a dresser - littered with make up and perfume bottles*

How thoughtful of you. But yes, I think it's helped already. Do let me know when you find the ones with pearls in too, yes?

Okay. I find them every now and then. [he nodded. Then he looked over at her file] so that's what you use to grind down your cla...er, nails?

Those pearls are extremely highly prized among women. A little tip - if you ever find a woman that you want, bring her pearls. She'll love it.

*At least none of that advice about human women was a lie, as far as Faye was concerned*

Mhm. See?

*She held a hand out to him to inspect, her nails all uniform and round*

You want to try it?

Yeah, Aquarian women like pearls...I'm not surprised to hear humans like them too.

[he leaned closer to inspect the nail file] Hm, it's finer than the stuff I use to sand down weapon handles. I guess I could try it on one of my claws?

[he took it and filed along the edge of one of his claws, making it sharper] hmm, there we go!

There you go, then. Perhaps we're not such different creatures after all.

*Faye frowned at his comment in an amused way and looked down at her nails*

Well of course it's finer than that. What do you think my claws are made of?

*She watched as he used the file against his own nail or, rather, claw, and she raised a brow at its sharpness*

If you're not careful you'll cut me up with claws like that, and I'm not sure I'm ready to become your dinner.

You've got a point, your nails are kinda soft...

[after the dinner comment he chuckled a bit] I kill my food with my teeth, not my claws... Uh, not that you're on the menu, heh...heh...

[his smile faded quickly as if remembering something bad] I don't eat humans. [the next thing he said was very soft; she might not hear it clearly] never again.....

[he seemed to snap out of it, looking at her with a half smile] anyway, don't worry... I've learned to be very careful with my claws. And teeth for that matter.

They can do some damage when I want them to, though.

I'd like to stay off the menu, thank you very much. I just meant that you could scratch me, by mistake.

*She did think of touching his claw to her finger to prove her point, but she didn't want to risk the possibility of even a drop of blood.

But the conversation did seem to turn pretty awkward, and she wasn't sure if he said something else that she didn't quite hear but she couldn't help a small, involuntary shudder. Best keep the conversation light*

Well, good. But if you're going to be touching me up again, I'd suggest being even more careful.

*Not that he probably got the double meaning of that sentence either*

[he shook his head when she said she wanted to stay off the menu] you're safe from me. I'll do my best not to scratch you and I definitely wouldn't eat you

[nope, he didn't get the double meaning of that...nor the double meaning of talking about eating women, either]

I'll be careful. I do like to keep them sharp though; they're useful for grabbing slick fish that I can't reach with my mouth, and for climbing or clinging to things. These are actually pretty small comparatively. A few Aquarian species have tiny claws, similar to human nails even, but most of them have pretty long claws.

[he shook his head and watched her mess with her damp hair while he replied] I did a lot when I was young. But then I started paying attention to it and being purposely careful, and these days I don't accidentally hurt myself at all. I think the last time I bit my tongue was like...five years ago? I was 17ish... I was just eating too fast, heh

Trust me, I could get you trembling.

*She'll see if he picks up any double meaning on that one, even if this time she made it accidentally. Then she gets up and crosses the room to hang her towel up on the back of the door*

What about kissing?

[he simply laughed a bit, not really getting it. He watched her hang her towel up but frowned a bit at her next question] uh...I...don't really know. It's not something I do very much...
