Crew Wanted

[Kyouya writes a little larger than he normally would, wanting to make sure that it's noticed on its page. Not just skimmed by, as he fears some of these things might be.

It still may be, but it's worth a chance.]

I am acting on behalf of Lady Maribelle -- the daughter of the duke of Themis and court magistrate of Ylisstol, trained in naval warfare and military tactics -- and am looking for those who would be interested in joining a crew.

What we seek are principled individuals, those who wish to find treasure but do it without engaging in acts of piracy. We intend to stand against pirates when they cross us, so those who have experience with battle would be most welcome. It is not, however, a requirement.

If you are interested, please either contact me through these journals or come to the Restful Night Tavern. I will have a table there to speak with you personally. I am happy to answer any questions.

That would be assuming, of course, you're carrying anything of interest to a pirate crew. Surprising, really, what does and does not interest them.

I don't know if I'd call it honorable, sir, but it is what suits Lady Maribelle, and I believe in the course of action she's decided upon.

Aren't pirates criminals? To take arms against criminals is something worthy of admiration. There's no need to be modest in your aim to help your lady in these regards.

I don't know my way around this place well enough to give directions, I'm afraid. However, when you find the tavern, it will have a hanging emblem outside of it of three stars.

And how will you prevent local authorities from naming your crew pirates? What do you know of their laws? What authority do you have to decry other vessels as pirate ships?

We have no way of knowing whether the local authorities will take individual actions into considerations. They might brand all of us newcomers pirates the moment we're at sea, but they might not. This is about a personal moral code, rather than a legal one. As for decrying other ships, we intend, as I have said already, to engage in combat only when engaged. We will not strike until we are struck first.

I think I want to start my own crew, but I'm glad to see there are others who don't want to go about hurting people for their own gain! This Lady Maribelle sounds like a great leader!

I can make no promises; Lady Maribelle has final say, but if you're willing to prove yourself useful, I'm willing to put your name down.

Someone who does not lie about matters of importance. [Since, well, everyone lies. He knows that. He lives based according to that.] Someone who does not cheat their fellows, someone who does not kill except in self-defense, someone who will keep their word when it is possible, and someone who does not steal. [Because Robin Hood is all very well and good, but if they let that archetype pass, then what does separate them from pirates?]

We disapprove of the general idea of what piracy entails. Robbery, for instance. Doing violence to others and taking what is theirs. Which is why we will protect ourselves if pirates should attack us.
