☠Twenty-First Reel: Secret Keepers [Written]
[Red, cursive script appears on the journals.]
Dear Captains of Various Crews of Those Spirited Away by Davy Jones,
Would you ever keep a secret from your crew? Why or why not?
Personally, I'm not sure what secret would be deemed worth keeping away from my crew, but I'd think I'd be able to confide in at least my first mate. It could depend on the secret, itself. Is it one that will spare them my tragic end from an incurable illness? Then perhaps I'd keep it for a bit, until I knew that it was truly incurable.
Really, being captain is a harder job than one may think. I took that role on knowing the difficulty, however.
Overall, I would not keep secrets that directly influence my crew or their interests if I could help it, whether or not the secret would affect those secrets positively or negatively. If I can't trust my crew, then I might as well end their lives right now, since their presence would be unnecessary.
[The next part is added a moment later.]
As if they would go down easily, or at all!
Best Regards,
Captain Grell the Red
P.S.
If there are those who held positions of leadership in your world who also wish to reply and aren't captains, it would be appreciated.

To even say 'aye' to such a thing invites a lot of trouble.

I've noticed.
I'd prefer a taste of something a little sweeter actually.

There...is a bit of silence over on his end? But he's back now, it seems.]

I don't see the point in doing such a silly thing, honestly. Secrets always come out in the end and that then destroys the trust you might have.

Is it really such a big deal?

But secret keeping is just a no from me. Maybe they have their reasons but they would have to be pretty damn good to be acceptable.

After my death, I didn't tell them I returned and that was for their own benefit. They were in danger, they would have been in more danger if anyone knew I was alive. It has nothing to do without trusting them, it's only that I couldn't protect them.
Whether that makes sense or not, it worked. They survived.

So...you're some sort of walking dead?
Written
That was the case, I got reinforcements and although some things happened in my future, I at least managed to save their lives. That's enough for me.

The last time a crewmate kept a secret from me, I decided I'd kill him if I ever saw him again. That was a big secret, but still.
Even if it's a small secret, I don't like it.
[NOT HERE]
[WELL.]
[NOT THAT MARCO WOULD COMPARE HIMSELF TO BLACKBEARD BUT....]
[laskdjalskdjaoi4jqliwjadlijelakjdalskdjad]
[Brb trying to figure out any & all secrets he might have been keeping lately ho shit.]
audio;
Long hair makes you look like Roger.
[That was the least important and stupidest of them.]
[On a more important note there's the whole Shanks coming to rescue Ace and failing twice. The whole thing about Marco always wanted Ace to be the Pirate King. The thing about Marco being mad/jealous-ish that Ace got to die to protect his brother, but Marco couldn't do the same for Ace. There's the EXTRA BAD PART about Pops dying and Blackbeard coming back to mock them for losing Ace and then taking Pops' devil fruit... YEAH NO HE IS JUST SO MUCH NOT BRINGING THAT SHIT UP.]
[Not to mention all the stuff about the memorial Shanks made, but he can't bring that up either because Ace is keeping it secret from Luffy that he's dead...]
[WHICH YOU KNOW MAKES THIS SUPER HYPOCRITICAL YO.]
Look sometimes the secrets are just so you don't get mad or hurt, eh? If they were really important, you'd trust me to tell you, aye?
audio;
[Ace and Marco had varying definitions of secrets--]
Who asked you!? My hair looks really cool this way, you dumbass!

[With that said she paused a moment.]
It would depend on the secret. One must know what is necessary to share, and what is not. There are times when information is need to know only, and times when one must be open with those under them so they may all work smoothly. There are also secrets that may be unrelated, and thus need not be shared. And at times there are secrets kept of old deeds that no longer reflect the person you are.
I would say that secrets that may endanger everyone should be shared, but even that depends on the over all end goal of things. If the end goal is incredibly important, and requires keeping such dangerous secrets, then the mission must be prioritized.

i used to think i knew what i was doing
thought i could just walk in here and be a captain and it'd be as easy as making a movie
maybe even easier
i wouldn't have to worry about camera angles critics advertising or stalkers
but it isn't easy.
people die and disappear
then you wonder if it was your fault
did i do something wrong?
did i fail to protect someone when they needed me?
i don't know.
maybe i gave up because i realized i have no idea what i got myself into
even though i have been here form months i still don't know much about ships or sailing
i never looked after people full time
at the end of the day we all went back to our hotels and our trailers and i was absolved from responsibility
i worked my ass off writing scripts and making deadlines
but i never had anyone's blood on my hands
well
not anyone i didn't hate.
so
what i'm trying to say is
i appreciate everything you are doing
and everything you have always done for your crew
you are a great captain
better than me anyway
and i never meant you any disrespect.
[action]
But she, too, hadn't ever taken care of anyone but herself around the clock, and that's where movies are nothing like reality. What he says at the end really makes her smile, so Grell just pops up near Dave. Hope he's decent. Or not.]
I've read your reply. It seemed silly to reply when you're right here.
[action]
It's easier to get my thoughts down on paper. I wasn't gonna walk up to you and start rambling out of nowhere.
[Though doing so on the journal probably wasn't any better. Dave is just awkward when it comes to things like this.]
I didn't even answer your question. I don't know if I would keep a secret from my crew. Maybe I would. Maybe not. It depends on the secret. I hope you wouldn't keep one from me, but if you did it would probably be because you have a damn good reason.
