Dear Captains of Various Crews of Those Spirited Away by Davy Jones,

Would you ever keep a secret from your crew? Why or why not?

Personally, I'm not sure what secret would be deemed worth keeping away from my crew, but I'd think I'd be able to confide in at least my first mate. It could depend on the secret, itself. Is it one that will spare them my tragic end from an incurable illness? Then perhaps I'd keep it for a bit, until I knew that it was truly incurable.

Really, being captain is a harder job than one may think. I took that role on knowing the difficulty, however.

Overall, I would not keep secrets that directly influence my crew or their interests if I could help it, whether or not the secret would affect those secrets positively or negatively. If I can't trust my crew, then I might as well end their lives right now, since their presence would be unnecessary.

As if they would go down easily, or at all!

[She would kick HIM if he tried to justify that! She would never take someone's crew like that! Whether or not she has the confidence, it still wouldn't take away the fact that her own crew or someone else's are just things to be taken away if they don't do well, or things to be gained.

If nakama are truly that important, then such a wager shouldn't even be done! What if families were on the line?! (Which they are, since Banica does have her daughter.) She they be forced to give them up because they lost some stupid game based on 'pride'?]

[Families ARE on the line, Marco's crew is his brothers for fuck's sake, and the only family he's ever known. But no, they don't bet babies because babies don't count. Although if Conchita lost, she could go to the other crew with her daughter, but if they really lost at a Davy Back game, Marco believes the other crew would have a right to pick to the strongest. Just as Grell would have the right to try her damnedest to win them back.]

[It's still a cruel game to play and Grell will refuse to play it. Let her pride suffer for it! She isn't going to use people to barter for something so intangible!]

[But killing them is better?]

[Yes, because they have the freedom to fight back without any strings attached.]

[That's what Davy Back is about. Fighting for pride without the risk of death!]

[NOPE. Fighting for your life at your own expense is better than being forced to fight for someone else's.]

[No, you always fight for everyone else's too. Otherwise your crew wouldn't be so loyal and trust you to handle their best interests.]

[Forcing them to fight to stay on their crew in some silly game rather than allowing them to fight because they want to as the pirates, and beings they are, is in the crew's best interests. Grell wouldn't use her crew in such a way that would limit them to just things.

She wouldn't be any better than those who enslaved her otherwise.]

[No no. There is no forcing them to fight in the game, that's the whole point. If they don't want to do the game, they don't. Period.]
