[the flip of a page brings sound first, a grunt and a slight ting of bells]

...there, 'course. Now where's the damn writing thing...?

[it cuts off and the rest comes in jagged handwriting, as the journal translates his Chinese script]

word of advice. don't get captured. sure, you'd say it's better than dying, but I'd beg to differ. it ain't fun. it's not an easy way out. puts your crew at risk, more than if you die. and I don't know about half of you, but I ain't lettin' some Navy ass gloat about stretching my neck on the gallows. Hell no. Never give 'em the satisfaction.

I ain't gonna ask for a recap of the last week, I can figure it out for myself. But I saw mention of a couple names of Oda's guys who I might wanna talk to. didn't know they'd be here...

[for anyone on the Booyakasha, he's sitting out on the forecastle, writing and contemplating the open ocean. He's got a lot to think about. He's grateful for the rescue, though.]

[He nods back, stepping over towards the railing to lean over, watching the waters splash against the front of the ship below them. Just gonna peel the foil off of another chocolate coin, here.]

If you're hungry, think there's pizza down in the galley still, last I checked.

Ugh. No, I'm good. I've had enough. That stuff's rich.

[to say nothing of those chocolate coins there]

[Can't blame him there. The turtle boys seem to like their pizza fancy too, but it's pretty tasty so he won't argue about it.

...as for said chocolate coins, well, there's a disappointed sound as the one Gaius has been fiddling with decides to take a dive.]

...aw.

[SNORT] How many of those you got left, anyway?

Umm....

[He continues to look down at the waves as though expecting to spy his poor chocolate piece, or some fish making a grab for it, even if it's well lost beneath the waves by now. Already slipping another piece as he speaks- although this time he turns his back to the rail as he opens it.]

About ten- well, nine, now.

Damn. You must have had a hell of a stash after the snow.

[shakes his head. Gaius, what are you, even. He waggles his fingers toward the foil, though]

Hey, gimme that. It might make a good fishing lure.

[He can't help but grin a little at that.]

Hey, if no one else was going to claim free chocolate under the snow drifts on deck, then who was I to let 'em go to waste?

[And if they hadn't been aware that there were such things to be found, well, you snooze, you lose?]

This? Oh, sure.

[He steps over to hold out the bit of foil covering once he's freed his chocolate from it. At least it isn't all melty either.]

[you are wise in the ways of chocolate, Gaius. Truly. Gan Ning takes the foil and plays with it a bit, folding it in different ways]

Yeah, I bet this'd be a real nice lure. Something shiny, catches the sun like a little fish's scales...

[Of course he is.]

Huh, that's a pretty good idea there.

Got any more? Not that I wanna force you to finish off your stash but. Yanno.

...there's a bucket in the galley that might have a bunch, since that's where I tossed them, although I don't know if they'd be easy to find, depending on what trash might've been dumped in there as well by now. They're kind of wadded up anyway.

Eh, oh well. I'll check. Save the rest of 'em for me, wouldja? I kinda got a yearning for some fresh fish to balance out the pizza.

At least I think you'd do way better than Donatello did when I volunteered him to try his hand at fishing, last time.

[he can just imagine Donnie spending all day trying to meld a fishing reel with a net and never getting anywhere]

[He flashes a wry smile. Well, no, there was nothing funny about that whole situation since they were out a fridge and fresh food that day.]

[he sits back against the railing and fiddles with the shiny foil in his fingers some more, his attention not really focused on it]

Trust me. None o'ya want to see the inside of that prison. Not now, not ever. Nothin' Orochi ever did was ever so bad and he was a demon.

Prisons aren't generally fun places to be in general.

That one didn't seem nearly as bad as the last one I was in, and at least the locks were normal.

Never been caught before, myself. But even in Wu, we treat our prisoners like human beings. They get food, they don't get slapped around...

Heh. You make prison sound like you're staying at an inn. Back home, you do something to land you in prison, they're not like to forget it, or let you forget it either.

[He absently drops his right hand over the inner side of his left forearm as he thinks about it. Nah, not much fun, prison.]

They might feed you, but they still don't think much of you either. And then in the last prison I woke up in around this place, it was enchanted or something because it sapped the energy from you if you touched the walls or the doors for too long. Sure made it tricky trying to get the lock open, but still managed. Pretty sure we would've been left there in the dark and forgotten otherwise.

....really? Damn.

[a spot of beating and starvation is definitely a vacation compared to that.]

Yep. Could've been hanging by a rope 'cuz I was caught raiding the royal treasury, back home. Heh.
