[the flip of a page brings sound first, a grunt and a slight ting of bells]

...there, 'course. Now where's the damn writing thing...?

[it cuts off and the rest comes in jagged handwriting, as the journal translates his Chinese script]

word of advice. don't get captured. sure, you'd say it's better than dying, but I'd beg to differ. it ain't fun. it's not an easy way out. puts your crew at risk, more than if you die. and I don't know about half of you, but I ain't lettin' some Navy ass gloat about stretching my neck on the gallows. Hell no. Never give 'em the satisfaction.

I ain't gonna ask for a recap of the last week, I can figure it out for myself. But I saw mention of a couple names of Oda's guys who I might wanna talk to. didn't know they'd be here...

...there's a bucket in the galley that might have a bunch, since that's where I tossed them, although I don't know if they'd be easy to find, depending on what trash might've been dumped in there as well by now. They're kind of wadded up anyway.

Trust me. None o'ya want to see the inside of that prison. Not now, not ever. Nothin' Orochi ever did was ever so bad and he was a demon.

Prisons aren't generally fun places to be in general.

That one didn't seem nearly as bad as the last one I was in, and at least the locks were normal.

Never been caught before, myself. But even in Wu, we treat our prisoners like human beings. They get food, they don't get slapped around...

Heh. You make prison sound like you're staying at an inn. Back home, you do something to land you in prison, they're not like to forget it, or let you forget it either.

[He absently drops his right hand over the inner side of his left forearm as he thinks about it. Nah, not much fun, prison.]

They might feed you, but they still don't think much of you either. And then in the last prison I woke up in around this place, it was enchanted or something because it sapped the energy from you if you touched the walls or the doors for too long. Sure made it tricky trying to get the lock open, but still managed. Pretty sure we would've been left there in the dark and forgotten otherwise.

....really? Damn.

[a spot of beating and starvation is definitely a vacation compared to that.]

Yep. Could've been hanging by a rope 'cuz I was caught raiding the royal treasury, back home. Heh.

What about here? Because all those idiots did was pace by my cell five times a day to tell me how soon I was gonna hang. They kept a countdown.

Might've been left there to rot, or maybe that witch would've gotten bored and had us all kill each other if she felt like it. Nearly had us do so to our other crewmates before she whisked us away to her fortress.

Witch? I've heard rumblings about something like that. What happened?

Oh gods, that was a fun time.

[And by his tone, no, no it wasn't.]

Well, it started off as just some odd...feeling. And then like a voice that you couldn't ignore at the back of your mind. Somehow this witch managed to curse a bunch of us or something, all the ones brought here from other worlds. We were eventually convinced that we needed to kill our own crews- which thankfully we didn't manage to succeed in doing, aboard the other ship I used to sail with. ....came close, though.

Worse yet, we were well aware of what we were doing, but we hadn't seen it as anything wrong at the time. And then a day later, we wake up in some dark cell with only the sound of the sea to hint where we were. At that point that witch had dispelled whatever control she'd had on us, so we were completely aware of what we'd done, and it was enough to keep some of us from not trying to get out at all.

[Himself included, for a while.]

[His face grows a bit angry, hearing that. It's all too familiar.]

Mind control sorcery. Great. So I gotta keep an eye out for that around here, too.

Not to knock your experience, I'm sure it was the worst thing ever.

Sure tops my list for both worlds.
