I have encountered the strangest thing. Neither Shotaro nor myself acquired candies before embarking on our journey, and yet there is a small bowl of chocolates here. I have tried many times to dispose of them, dubious of their safety, and yet they always return. I recall hearing of at least one other having come upon this, and that the candies will cause anyone that ingests them to have strange urges based on the words upon the wrapper.

I think perhaps that this notion only makes my inclination to try them stronger.

[He is quiet for a while.]

What, do most people think, would the response to a detective agency opening in the area be? My partner and I were detectives, in Fuuto, and I feel as though a sleuthing technique may prove quite useful to a collection of people prone to piracy. Of course there are certain limitations, but...

A one Mami Tomoe made mention of them. She said it seemed eating the candies may make you do or say things you didn't plan to, depending on the words on the wrapper.

[He picks one up and turns it over in his fingers, tilting his head before unwrapping it, nudging the candy aside to read the words inside. It states, plainly, "Hug Me".]

With that logic in mind, this candy seems to want me to embrace someone, or someone to embrace me. Or perhaps I will attempt to embrace the candies, if I eat it.

[He will scoot over to where the bowl is and give it a scrutinizing look. There was nothing hard boiled about valentine's day candies.]

Something that makes people do things against their will doesn't sound good to me.

[Setting the bowl down, he uses the now-freed hand to pat the space on the other side of it from himself, inviting Shotaro to sit with him.]

[Don't let that fool you though, he is completely on edge. He doesn't trust anything out of this place.]

I am unfamiliar with what you speak of, what is the role of such an organization?

Ah but then I would wonder forever if the rumors of them were true.

Detective work amounts generally to being asked to solve mysteries of clients ranging from lost items to lost people and the like. Generally it is a good amount of seeking and often, finding. We are meant to solve any problem a client brings to us, within reason.

This detective work sounds quite useful, though I do not believe that I personally am in need of such a person currently. Unless you are one who could potentially find the various "shards" we are to seek out.

A fair point of optimism, though I tend to lean more toward a realistic pessimism, which leads me to point out that there is also nothing that says that it would. [He sounds a bit like he's smiling when he says this, though.]

That is quite a title. Mononobe-- would that be of any relation to the military clan Mononobe commonly affiliated with the introduction of Buddhism in Japan?

Mostly that there is very little information bank to draw from in relevant studies. I could learn plenty of the people here by reading and asking questions, but the acclaimed "important" subjects such as the figure behind our assumed kidnapping and the famed jewel we are to seek are more of a challenge to learn about.

Literally; a member of the police force or a private investigator whose function is to obtain information and evidence, as of offenses against the law. My partner and I fall into the latter category of private investigators, lacking affiliation with the police force and on occasion operating just outside the law.
