This is Commander Shepard, Systems Alliance Navy. Considering the crew of the Normandy and I only had enough time to gently interrogate the locals on the main island before we were kindly asked to leave, the location of a friendly port or merchant ship to restock supplies would be appreciated.

I would also like to personally extend my thanks to the person responsible.

[All the fucking sarcasm in the world.]

Not exactly inclined to trust just anyone out there, but I'm sure you've all seen the reports about an impending attack. If there's a chance one of our people will show up behind enemy lines, we should make some plans.

Can't even connect to the extranet, and I doubt any of us had any programs installed on our omni-tools that dealt with actual sailing.

[It's almost a joke, except it really is their only option. That, or finding someone willing to teach them.

That next comment makes her smirk, though.]

[Hey, he resents that remark. He really is charismatic when he wants to be. It's just everybody is really getting on his nerves lately, especially people trying to guilt him into giving combat information even though there's no reason to trust them at all!]

At this point I'd take anybody that knew how to set the sails properly.

There was plenty of that too when I ran with the Reds.

[there's a little chuckle as he ties some shitty knot in the line.]

And here I didn't think you knew how to negotiate.

[normally he wouldn't be this social with someone he's just met, but there's obviously something different here. he's always been the one closed off, keeping his emotions and inner thoughts to himself for the sake of putting on a strong, confident face for ship morale and the mission.]

Were you on Torfan?

[She's actually a bit surprised. She's never been one for sharing personal details, either, but she can still keep up a conversation through smalltalk and asking the other person questions; he hadn't seemed like the type.

But then, she's still trying to gauge just who he is, and this seems like a good way to do that.]

I wasn't, although I met Major Kyle later. I didn't exactly get the impression that operation ended well, even though the Alliance won eventually.

[Although she wonders if it would have gone down differently with him there.]

[That's kind of interesting. They both grew up on Earth, but it looks like things might have diverged. It makes sense in a way considering there are obvious differences between the two, but it's still interesting.]

Damn batarians were dug in pretty deep. It took some pushing, but we flushed them out. Major Kyle was my CO for that mission. It was one of the operations that put my name on the short list for N7. [And the Spectres later on.]

"Butcher of Torfan" they called me. [He doesn't look too impressed with that moniker, so he quickly moves on.] What about you? Any nicknames?
