Okay! I asked some questions of the people around the Island and read the entry that appeared in my journal first. I went to that funny statue too. I think I'm prepared to do this now.
Hello everyone. It feels strange writing in a journal that other people can see, but it's a familiar thing at least. Almost comforting. I hope that other people feel that way about it too.
My name is Nitori Aiichiro. I'm trying to figure out where to go from here. I have all this information, but that doesn't tell me much about how someone who doesn't know how to sail can possibly join a pirate crew.
I know how to swim! That's not really useful once you're really far out in the ocean, is it? I mean, unless someone falls overboard. Or you have to dive to look for the treasure. I'm good at cooking too. Everyone has to eat, even on ships, right?
I wish Matsuoka-senpai were here to help me organize my thoughts. He's really good at pointing out what I'm capable of. But I can do this! I can totally handle this situation, even if it's really weird. There's no reason whatsoever to just give up. I'll just find a crew and then
Wait. Everyone can see this. I forgot and gave myself a pep talk. Oh no, that's so embarrassing! Maybe I'll just wait for an answer now.

Voice;
[Mitsuhide sounds thoughtful. It could be a coincidence, but with the mention of swimming and the way this world works... well, it can't hurt to ask. So he says:]
Do you speak of Matsuoka Rin?
Re: Voice;
[He responds in voice too, since that's what the other person used. And his voice sounds absolutely elated.]
I mean, I guess there could be two people by that name but... a boy named Rin is kind of... and... it's got to be him!
Matsuoka-senpai is my roommate at school...
[He's really too caught up in being excited to say anything particularly clever or even finish his sentences properly.]
Voice;
I am second-in-command aboard the ship he is currently on. Rin is, indeed, my companion.
[Best to keep this simple for now, and offer some reassurance.]
He has been in this world for a short while now; our Captain and I have been teaching him the skills he needs as a sailor. You may be assured he is quite safe and healthy.
Re: Voice;
[Okay, that's rather confusing. Didn't he just see Rin? After all, they were at the tournament, and so many things happened, and it's not like he'll ever forget that moment and the way Rin said "Ai".
So how has he been here for a while? That doesn't make any sense. On the other hand, neither does suddenly arriving at an island in the middle of nowhere when you weren't even traveling, and being given a magic journal.
He's quiet for a few seconds.]
I don't really understand. I mean, how that could be, but. But. It's okay! As long as he's safe and healthy, it doesn't have to make sense...
[He still sounds kind of doubtful.]

Nitori?!
[He's surprised enough that he doesn't even whine about being mentioned by name, let alone how he was mentioned.]
Re: [Voice]
You really ARE here, Matsuoka-senpai! I'm so glad!
[He doesn't even think that might be a bad thing to say about someone being dragged away from home.]
Re: [Voice]
Nevermind me, think about yourself, first.
[If actions speak louder than words, Rin has never actually supported that statement, always happy to let Nitori
serveassist him, but that doesn't make it any less true under the current circumstances. Nitori shouldn't be glad about any aspect of being stuck here.]You're on Empieza? [That seems to be where people arrive, and the mention of a statue suggests as much, too.] Where exactly?
Re: [Voice]
That's right! Empi-Empieza? It's a funny name.
[He laughs awkwardly.]
I'm in a tavern just off the square where that statue is. Should I walk back to the square?
[Even if Rin's shipmate had talked to him, it still boggled Aiichiro's mind a little. That Rin was not only here, but might be willing to let him tag along.]

You mentioned diving though. How good of a swimmer are you anyways?

[His voice is soft, a little hesitant.]
I'm not the fastest swimmer, but I have good stamina! At home I compete in swimming, but I swim the longer races. I suppose... if you were really swimming for survival or trying to dive and look for something, stamina is really more important than speed anyway.

I'm sure I could learn though!

NOT HERE
Re: NOT HERE
written;
Overall, I'd say its defiantly a good learning experience. So just go with a crew and sail. You never know, you could be really good at it.
Re: written;
I was worried I wouldn't be able to be useful, but everyone who has responded has been really nice.
Are you enjoying sailing so far? Is it fun?
written;
So far, it's had it's good points and really bad points, but overall I am enjoying myself.
Re: written;
I'm a little nervous about it. Not the sea itself necessarily; I'm used to living near the ocean, and I'm not afraid of it. But just... not being good enough at it is a scary thought. I wouldn't want to join a crew and then let everyone down.

Self-motivation is a skill in itself.
[There is resounding confidence in his voice as he continues -- he has the advantage of seeing the fuss his crew is making over this boy. He suspects it will do Rin some good to have someone his junior around, especially with their evident pre-existing acquaintance.]
Have no fear, Nitori Aiichiro. You will learn to sail in due course.
Re: voice;
He sounds a little nervous as he responds.]
Ah, that's... I'm not sure I've ever seen that as a skill, but it does help I guess. I'll definitely work hard.
Um, excuse me but... could you introduce yourself? It's a little strange hearing someone saying my name when I don't know theirs.
