[ Conan hadn't yet bothered with writing in the journal, deciding that he'd instead wait and merely flip through the pages. When he'd discovered that they could broadcast what was written in them into other journals he was, naturally, intrigued. There had to be a logical explanation for it, after all. ]

[ Finally, he puts his fountain pen to the page and writes. ]

I came across something interesting and I'm wondering how deep it goes. So, I'm going to list a few things, let me know if they are familiar to you:

Nothing, I just want to know what repeats.

You said most, this implies there is at least one thing on the list you are not familiar with. May I take a guess and assume that you do not recognize Kaitou Kid?

That would be correct. It's an odd name to read - Japanese, perhaps, with English afterwards?

Aa. Though is was originally 'Kaitou 1412' an immature mystery writer accidentally misread it as 'Kid' and the name stuck.

That's a bit of a stretch. But as for everything else you listed, I know them.

As I said, immature. [ Also his dad. ]

I'm finding anything I have a personal tie too isn't likely to repeat into another world. The only person to recognize Kaitou Kid so far, is a girl whose father I know.

So we truly are working with different dimensions here. Fascinating.

It would seem so.

And yet he's unable to find a few pieces of a gem and instead uses his power to pull people out of their own dimensions and timelines to do the work for him. [Don't mind him, he's also writing down his thoughts for future reference.]

[tantiny]

If he can pull people from different dimensions then why would he need the jewel?

Precisely. A person with so much power has little need for something as miniscule as a shiny trinket. There must be something preventing him from collecting it himself, and having it would provide him something significant in return.

[tantiny]

[ That is the question. And one he can't answer immediately as there are far too many possibilities. He thinks back to their arrival, when the figure had first appeared-he had seemed disappointed. Unhappy with the available selection. So was he really the one that was responsible for the mass kidnapping? Or was there someone he was working for? ]

Unfortunately, at the moment we can't even be sure he's the one behind this.

[ There had to be more at work here. After all, it didn't make sense to just scoop up a bunch of people and tell them the only way back home was to find a jewel. Not unless there was an experiment involved. ]

A man behind the curtain, then. Or, if we're to believe Davy Jones is behind this, perhaps there's a curse involved as well.

[...This is an oddly engaging conversation to be having with a kid. Huh.]

Nah, Davy Jones is likely just slang for the bottom of the ocean. I guess the only way to learn more is to, for now, play their game.

And how are you so sure about that? Davy Jones might not take that too kindly.

[tantiny]

It wasn't even used properly in the poem. It's Davy Jones' Locker. Not Lair. And besides, the same argument applies. 'If he can do this, why did he do that'

And here I was, hoping someone your age would have at least a little more imagination. There's no proof of anything until we do play their little game. Who knows - we might even discover Atlantis and Moby Dick as well.

I'd be okay with finding Atlantis. Not so sure about Moby Dick.

I might prefer that over a kraken.
