Dear magical journal thing that I'm still not convinced isn't completely evil,

Have been stuck in close quarters with speccy git Potter for far longer than I'm used to — thus far I've managed not to hex him, at least. I suspect the urge won't be kept at bay for much longer.

The sun decided not to rise this morning — totally normal, that. Not worrying at all.

THERE ISN'T A PROPER LOO ON THIS BLOODY SHIP, or shower, or anything else — cleaning charms can only go so far!! My hair is hideous.

In conclusion: not dead yet.

Any number of things, really! It would depend what spell is used. I was thinking of perhaps sticking his shoes to the ground, or turning his hair blue. Well-timed trip jinxes are always amusing, or there's one that would cause his legs to dance about uncontrollably. Well, that last one isn't really a hex, just a harmless bit of prank magic...

I know a bloke—one of Potter's friends, actually—who once tried to make me "eat slugs", I believe it was. But he had a shoddy wand and the whole thing backfired. He ended up vomiting slugs himself!

Oh no, of course not. Magic has many uses, this is more just a side perk. Our captain, however, would prefer I didn't use it to do chores and the like around the ship.

No—you don't think magic is all hexes, do you? No, there are countless types of spells; some good, some...not. Some that just accomplish the simplest of menial tasks. It can do anything. Magic is brilliant.

Magic is a sign of man's moral decay, if certain sources are to be trusted. Truth be told, in you boys I have yet to see an argument for the contrary.

That's hardly fair to say. There's no difference in me using magic for fun than there is in you playing a game of cards to alleviate any boredom you might have. I have the ability to use a wand, you have the ability to read numbers. Why should I be scolded for being born with magical blood?

It's a way of life, you see, not a source of vain entertainment. Though normally I'm not to talk about it with muggles at all, because your lot doesn't believe in sorcery and have tried to kill witches and wizards in the past because of it. Not to mention that, look, your immediate thought is that it should be used to the benefit of your kind. That's why we stay hidden away, but then this is a different world and an odd situation...

It should be used to benefit all kind. The divisions of man are arbitrary. Magic, wealth, it makes no difference. You cannot deny a portion of humanity all knowledge of a given form of benefit, then expect there to be no coveting of it once it becomes known. The very act of denying it implies that those which possess it are aware of the vast capabilities.

I disagree, there are some divisions of man that aren't arbitrary at all, and being magical or not is one of them. Of course we're aware of the vast capabilities it has, but what good is it to allow muggles the knowledge that magic exists? Nothing they do will grant them the same abilities, and it isn't as though magic is some extraordinary cure-all anyway. It's fantastic, of course, but our world isn't without its own problems.

Wealth and magic can hardly be compared. Money, social status, theoretically these things can be gained, even though some might be lucky enough to be born with both. But with magic, you either have it or you don't.

Therefore it must be hidden away? An entire world of secrecy and lies built solely on a lack of trust in one's fellow men. There is no excuse for it.

There is plenty of excuse for it! You want to speak to me about lack of trust amongst men? It was your kind who didn't trust us. We didn't always have the Statute of Secrecy, you know, it's only been around for a few centuries. There was a time we were able to coexist, but then wizards and witches began to be persecuted all across the continent to the point that we were forced into hiding. The Ministry even went to your bloody King and Queen of the time seeking aid, but they were denied.

It's not the fault of Wizarding kind that things are kept separate now.
