First Rose: Not in Oz [VOICE]

[He's been wandering around enough to see other posts and learn a bit about the journal's function.]

So we're given a journal, some money, and we're expected to leave this island as soon as possible via ship? [His voice sounds pretty skeptical.] Aren't there other options?

[In the background there is the sound of seagulls and the sea washing against the docks.]

I don't think I've been on a ship for longer than a day, if that long... [He can already feel he's going to have an awful time at sea. There is a sigh.]

From what I can see, not everyone has a journal like this. Any particular reason why?

I'm afraid that there aren't. Both the welcome letter and the locals are quite clear in that respect. Even if we don't want to sail I don't think we are wanted here.

I may be wrong, but maybe the journal is a "gift" only given to those who are strangers to this place.

That's true, that's why I asked around. Even if their words could be doubted, the general sentiment of not being wanted is hardly a lie. Even if there are other options, I don't think we will find them here.

[She giggles at the last statement.]

Even so! A gift is a gift, and we should be grateful for it. I'm sure they could have just thrown us here without any means to communicate with others or to find out what our options are.

True enough... [He still sounds skeptical about the whole thing. It feels too much like a trap to get their guard down.] I would have preferred it that way, but I won't complain much more about that part of the situation.

[She sounds quite young, however, but well spoken...]

Oh? You would have preferred to not be given any hint or help?

[She hums for a moment, considering it.]

I can't say the same, I probably would be too terrified and confused to be able to do much like that. But I can see why someone would prefer it that way, I guess... It would make things feel less like we're chess pieces?

[She can't deny that's a feeling she has, but it's one she's willing to accept and not fight for now.]

Uhm... I recently found a man kind enough to offer me passage on his vessel once he acquires it. Other than that, I am. Although I have the impression that that's the general status for everyone here, so I shouldn't complain about it.

Am I right to assume that you're the same?

Advice? Uhm... My advice is to learn how to sleep in hammocks, first. Falling out every night kinda hurts... Also - sometimes you might be on your ship for a looong time before seeing land, so pack with you plenty of cake and a book or something if you get bored.

*Okay, maybe that wasn't exactly the advice that he was looking for, but it was honestly the best advice she could think of*
