[Serenes did her good. The absolute peace and quiet in her mind, well, that went away. But the rest perked Rogue up a bit. Enough that she can, at least, address her fellow kidnap victims about something fairly insignificant.]

So, we're from a lot of different worlds, right? That's what I've noticed at least.

That's got me curious.

What're the "milestone" birthdays where y'all are from?

[This has nothing to do with her own upcoming birthday. Nope. Or with using a fairly benign topic to announce her presence to certain people.]

Like. Where I'm from--

You've got sixteen, which means you can drive.
Eighteen's a big deal, even though, y'know, not much y' really get. I mean, buyin' cigarettes an' votin', but that ain' really a big deal.
Then there's twenty-one, legal drinkin' age.

Anybody else got big ones? 'M just curious 'bout the differences in worlds, y'know?

[For the Spades, she's around. Keeping busy, paying close attention to how to work the sails and everything else. The same pep that was in her step on Serenes is gone, but she's also not completely skulking about like she was after Stela and before that.]

[and by his tone, "odd" is a good thing]

'M with the Spade crew m'self. They're... pretty odd themselves.

[And her tone says about the same thing. Strange, but, well. She likes strange. And she's found a place among them.]

It's good t' get settled. Seems like, at least. People watchin' over you an' all.

That's the Idea. Wanted my own Ship an' Crew, but I've a Reputation to carve into this World first. Have to hit the Ground running.

I know a lot of idiots back home who'd think they could just up an' go off by themselves, knowin' nothin' 'bout this place.

I got lucky. Someone took me in pretty quick.

Hm, in a Town like Isla Empieza, that is lucky. Looks like ye've found some Friends.

Which is good, seein' as those Idiots ye know'll likely die if they ever show up.

Found someone I kinda know -- it's a weird story -- and someone else with a good cause.

Happened they were on the same ship. So, I joined up.

Good a Reason as any. Folks with a real good Cause are harder to find than they should.

[Rogue's... picked up on the Spade reputation. So, well. Maybe she wants to have them make a good first impression here.

Or wants to make one herself.]

Some of their number got taken by slavers. I joined up t' help get 'em back.

[It's also a good litmus test for personalities. Anyone who doesn't agree that's a good cause? Isn't someone she's wasting time with.]

[oh, if only James could talk about his violent escapades with slavers. suffice to say, he's not slavery's biggest fan]

Ah, can never escape the Trade, can ya. I trust it went well?

Well as it could. None of ours died.

[Which was enough of a success for her.]

An' we got back the ones they'd lost. Helped a lotta others, too. An' did a damn good job takin' out that base of theirs, I think.

Dealt a Blow to their Operations, then. That's what I like to hear!

Where was their Base?

Island called Stela. We did a fair bit of damage t' the place.

Hm. Should I see them risin' up, I'll spread the Word.

If y' like, I can pass on if we hear 'bout other places they're usin'. We could prob'ly use the help, 'specially 'gainst the larger bases.

Aye, do that. If a Man or Woman's Freedom's at Stake, I'm always willin' to lend my Blade to the Cause.

[She needs to ask. Her own world's made her cautious. There are people who'd do anything for humans but would leave mutants to their fate.]

Some of us 'round here... have powers. We can do things no one else can. I've met some people who don' think someone like that deserves helpin'.

[he hums thoughtfully as James plays with that idea in his head. he has an immediate answer, but this requires a second of thought, at least]

Don't see why that should change anythin'. We all of us 'ave our Talents an' Oddities. Don't change your Character, or what you deserve.

Then we'll get along jus' fine, you an' me.

Good. 'Cause I've a Feeling I wouldn't want Rogue of the Spades an Enemy.

I ain' too bad, but it's always better t' have more people y' get along with than people y' don'. 'Specially when dealin' with a large group like that.

They ain' gonna like outsiders messin' with their business.

Their Business bein' the Slavers? I'd say that's Everyone's Problem.

You'd think, right? I dunno. 'M hopin' if they show again, there's more goin' after 'em than just the Spades.

I can't speak for them I sail with, but I sure as Hell hope so, too.

Not that their Displeasure'd stop me. [yeah, there's definitely a mischievous grin, there]
