voice/action for the Merrily

[there is silence a moment, just the sound of the sea to let you know the journal is open and then:]

I've decided I don't care about dating or that kind of stuff anymore.

[sent mostly to Ace and Smoker but he doesn't know how to private it or even if that's a thing really. Anyway it seemed a lot of people hadn't wanted him to think about that kind of thing in the first place so he should let them know]

I wanna be Pirate King and have all the friends I want and all the meat I want.

[and the rest of it... it didn't matter. Nothing could be better than nakama anyway. That done, he closes the journal and goes to find Smoker. He wants to spend more time with him before the race is over]

[he smiles a little, wondering if something had changed somehow... but soon enough the smile fades and he straightens. He's glad Sanji is saying stuff like that but he understands now.]

Sanji, I'm not going to be satisfied unless I have it the way that I want.

[but it didn't look like that kind of thing was possible without hurting someone. Dating had nothing to do with becoming the Pirate King or having fun adventures with nakama and because of that he could let it go for now.]

Anyway, I'm captain.

[which was also important. And since that kind of thing was only fun with nakama... He would rather have things stay as they were.]

[Lifts one shoulder in half a shrug.]

Good. It should be how you want. You and whoever you're doing it with, you're gonna do things your own way and it's gonna be different from how other people do shit. [And then a little pointedly:] Because every relationship is different, and different people are happy with different things.

[It's weird that Sanji is the only one who says that. But maybe it's cuz they're nakama that he agrees. It's still not worth the consequences of it to him, but, never mind. He grins a little sheepishly at the second part though]

Okay, got it.

[he snagged some more paille, licking the grease off his fingers]

Seems like Sanji figured out some stuff though huh? That's good.

[As long as Luffy and whoever he's doing whatever with are on the same page, that's all Sanji cares about. Yeah, he's had his...opinions...about first dates and trying to get a kiss out of the entire damn world and his thing with Smoker of all people, but in the end, Luffy will do what he wants to and if his partner sticks by him through the process, then that's what matters.

He munches a bit more paille himself, giving another shrug.]

Haven't changed my shitty tune, Luffy, this is what I've been saying all along.

Haha really? My bad.

[Well it was okay. It was figured out as much as he could and the rest would just take care of itself. But for now he just feels kind of unsettled so he leaves the rest of the paille to Sanji and lays back, looking at the annoying green clouds.

He wants blue sky and sunshine and somewhere fun where everyone is having a good time. He wants Usopp to come back again, or Chopper and Franky. He wants to go back home even though there's still a lot of work to do.]

Go away clouds.

[but said kind of listlessly because maybe they wanted to hang around because they were feeling sort of lonely. Who could say?]

[...Luffy not cleaning off a plate is never a good thing. Actually, it so rarely happens that Sanji's actually shocked into silence for a moment and slowly turns his head to just kind of stare at the other boy.

He spares a glance up to the clouds at those words, but then he's back to carefully watching Luffy.]

Oi, what's wrong?

[he's quiet for a moment, thinking about it and then closes his eyes and pulls the hat down a bit, but there's no tension in him]

I kissed Anna and I don't think Elsa's happy about it.

[oh...and]

Smoker is kind of weird. [even though that's settled. It's part of the heaviness]

But it'll work out somehow.

...

[Well, his eyebrows just shoot right up at that. And he lets out a low whistle.]

Damn, you really don't waste any time, do you?

[He sets the plate on the railing so that he can dig a cigarette out of his pocket.]

Smoker's always kind of weird. What makes you say that about Elsa-san?

It was pretty fun, though! [he grins at remembering] She thinks like me! [and it's pretty awesome. Well except...]

Right after that it got really cold and we didn't see her.

[which meant she might be hiding away again. He wasn't sure why but... the why didn't matter. She'd have to decide how she felt it about it and be strong enough to face up to it. What happened happened, but he wasn't gonna do something like that again on purpose.]

Hmm.

[Takes a drag, bracing an elbow back on the railing and looking thoughtful.]

Well, maybe she just wasn't sure what she was seeing. Anna-chan hasn't had the best record, you know, she fell for some guy back home after one conversation and then he turned out to be an asshole.

[...He assumes Anna probably told Elsa about that, anyway.]

So maybe it worried her.

But I'm not that guy.

[he was himself and Elsa knew even better than Anna because she'd been here longer]

[Slight eye roll.]

That's not what I meant. I'm saying maybe she's concerned that Anna-chan falls for people too easily, even if it had nothing to do with that. But the last thing she remembered her sister doing was asking for permission to marry some jerk she'd just met, and now she's only been here a couple weeks and she's already kissing someone else. Hell, maybe it just startled her, I dunno. You gonna ask her about it?

No. Like I said I'm not gonna do that kinda stuff anymore. [so there wasn't any reason to. He takes the plate from Sanji and dumps the rest of the paille in his mouth before handing it back]

Buff if fhe fanf fo feff fe fiff fiffef.

[...You'd think by now Sanji would be able to comprehend Luffy's food-stuffed-mouth speech.

He can't.

So he just kind of squints at him.]

Just gonna quit, huh. Why?

. . . [he thought he'd explained it. But maybe not. He swallows the food]

Because I don't wanna hurt anyone. Even on accident.

[and Smoker said that was part of it. That getting hurt was important. But he didn't care. He wasn't gonna do it]

Anyway, it's not that important.

[not to him anyway]

[He didn't, since Sanji can't read his mind. All he said out loud was that he wouldn't be satisfied unless he could have it how he wanted it. That makes a little more sense, though. About not wanting to hurt anyone. Sanji gives a slow nod.]

Mah, well. You can't control what other people feel, so sometimes it's unavoidable. Like those times when it's an accident...

Ain't a bad decision, though, I guess. We've got a shit-ton more things to worry about and accomplish, right?

No way. [he stands going to walk on the railing, using it as balance beam]

I don't wanna think about worrying and accomplishing. If I wanna do it it's just to have fun or because I wanna.

[which is what kind of sucks. Cuz even if he only wants to do it a little he still wants to do it that little even if he knows. And if he wanted to do it more than he didn't, it would be fine because it was what he wanted to do.

He's kind of jealous of Sanji and Zoro who can do whatever they wanna do with each other and like it and like it so much they keep doing it. But they aren't captains.

He wants to be right where he is more than anything and with his nakama by his side just how they are. So he'll ultimately let it go but he still wants to think about it for a while.

He sighs]

[and shifts to walk with his hands on the railing, keeping careful balance]

I wonder how Roger had Ace.... [he balances for a moment on his palms, staring at the rushing water.

Maybe he didn't have to think about this kind of thing. Or maybe he figured out something Luffy hadn't.

Well whatever he thought or didn't think or did or didn't do was a mystery and Luffy doesn't want to be just like him. But he is curious]

I guess old man Rayleigh would know.

[but he's not sure if it's really something important enough that he'll remember to answer]

[Rolls his eyes and waves a hand.]

Fine. More adventures to have, then. Whatever you wanna call it.

[He watches Luffy, absently blowing smokes rings into the air -- but then that stray thought of his throws Sanji a bit.]

...Eh? Roger?

Nothing. [it's not important]

Na, make sure Elsa and Anna get some really tasty stuff. [he knows Sanji gives treats to all the ladies but they needed really special treats right now]

[Blinks. Okaaay.

But then he gives a bright grin.]

Alright. Don't worry, I'll treat 'em right.

Yosh!

[and since he's done with that he'll start shimmying up the Crow's Nest to see if anyone is inside and doing anything interesting]
