Soooo, hey everyone! There are a lot of people with these journals, so I'm guessing... probably a great chance that you have no idea who I am. That's cool. Yeah, no, hey. Again. I'm Bolin.

Just got a couple of things I've been meaning to ask about, since, you know, before whenever it was that things... started getting crazy. Still, uh. Still not exactly sure when that started, but it's been surprisingly easy to forget about stuff since then. Anyway, this is all pretty sports-related? I mean, if you wanna talk about the weather or something, I'm up for it! Kind of not what's on my mind today is all.

Alright, first things first, who here can tell me more about boxing, and is anyone up for showing a guy the ropes sometime? The guy is me, for the record. Don't worry about messing up my good looks, either. They'll be fine.

And way more importantly [ !!! ], do we have like a headcount on people who can manipulate water, earth, or fire? Oh, or airbenders! I mean, there aren't exactly rules standing for air yet, but we could figure that out, I guess. The idea is to get together a few folks to train for a little sport called pro-bending. No big deal, no big deal, just a super-great, fast-paced, really amazing sport from home that would be a lot of fun, is all. Think about it! Let me know.

I think so! I got to watch some at that big fair a while back, and it seemed right up my alley. Light on your feet, hands up sort of stuff, right? It actually reminded me of pro-bending. Just without elements flying all over the place and with more personal bruising.

Well, not all of them. Just, uh. Just an earth guy, personally. I know we've got a couple of people around who can manage all four, though! [ "manage...." he guesses it's more of a "they were actually born to master manipulating all four" situation, technically, but eh. details. ]

Yup! Sounds 'bout right. 'Til we get some gloves, y' do much wrestlin'? That's less 'bout hittin' yer opponent an' more 'bout tryin' t' pin 'em.

That's still pretty incredible to be able to do that. We have a guy who can do fire magic and another who controls all four elements. But it must be hard being the earth guy when you're stuck on a boat 24/7.

Uhh, I've done some grappling. I mean, it's a little more about throwing, but it's got the close-quarters thing covered.

Ah, it's got its hangups here and there. But at least I've had time to get used to it! Sure, if I had a choice, all these ships would just be made of rocks, but that leads to some floating problems... [ He still considers this. ] No, no. It's better this way.

Are you trying to find training for a practical purpose, or for entertainment?

There are many of us who can manipulate the elements, but I only know of one other person who talks about 'bending'.

Oh, well, I'm from the world where bending is kind of a regular thing, so I know like... five people here who know what it's all about. Which is pretty helpful. [ He probably would have taken forever to find a crew otherwise, knowing his luck. ] And I guess I'm trying to find training for both reasons? No reason not to aim for the best of both worlds, am I right?

You won't get far here if you're training for entertainment. If you're not prepared to strike to do real damage, you're best off not fighting at all.

Nice thought, man, nice thought. I'll definitely think about it! [ He's pretty sure that's not actually possible, especially with all the people he cares about most being around with all this Navy madness, but. It's totally a nice thought. What a nice guy. ] Bending's pretty common back home, though, yeah. Usually a person is only connected to one element. Like, I'm an earthbender, my brother's a firebender, that kinda thing. Only the Avatar can bend all four.

[ Give him like ten seconds to stare at that and think to himself things like "what is that, why's that square there, is this dark sorcery," etc. Okay, Bolin, first things first, you can do this. ]

You know, controlling air and stuff. I don't know a lot about the specifics since I'm an earthbender, but that's sort of the... general idea. Make wind. Meditate a lot.

Fire is an element I have long been able to manipulate. Earth too. {Hell, he can probably do something with water and air as well.} I am not of your world, but I would not mind being counted.

(•ิ_•ิ) I meditate. I can command the winds. This is the first I've heard of this "airbending".

I can control wind, or air as you put it. But I'm most curious about hat this pro-bending thing is about.

I have skill in all five elements, which includes the ones you mentioned. I would not be adverse to learning more of your endeavor and potentially participating.

It's kinda world-specific. Not the air so much, but the bending. And the culture. Like your weird drawings! [ ON POINT. ]

Great question! I mean, the answer's apparently giant lion-turtles, so I don't know how much that helps explain it. And it's probably something different for other worlds? I don't know. Bending's been around in mine for a long time.

Hmm. What's your preference? It probably helps to remember that pro-bending means a lot of short blasts across the ring! [ What do you mean not everything is guaranteed to be about pro-bending, don't be silly. ] I'm pretty inclined to think you're more of a fire guy. Since you turn into a huge fiery bird and all.

Well, no problem there! I'm one of the best guys to ask. So with pro-bending, you have a ring with three zones on each side, and a three-bender team on each side. It's usually just earth, fire, and water, but it looks like we could get up to four-person teams with all these air-users around? Anyway, everyone starts in the first zone and the basic idea is to knock the other team back during the round! [ He figures more complicated parts of the rules could stand to wait for more official circumstances. Plus it's a pirate world, things probably have to change up a bit. ]
