So! It seems that some little miss nice boots wants all of us to behave~! Or else, no less!

[There is a long pause before the sound of a bottle being broken and a whoosh sound pops up. The sound is very akin to fire.]

You'll need to COME AND FIND ME if you want to punish me~!

[Soon enough, screams can be heard while people scream to help put out a fire. Then a chainsaw is suddenly heard, and there's far more to scream about now.]

Deesuko Ballia, I knew thee well!

[Action for the Bloody Roses: they are definitely not gonna stick around after this turn of events! To arms and chaos!]

I wouldn't have wanted my reputation to precede me in this case! You might've heard all the wrong things.

[A light laugh.]

Trust me, reputation means nothing to me. Anyway all I know is that you want to get married aren't getting it and like to burn islands that marry people because you're being left out of it.

That's mostly correct, yes.

[Of course, people are forgetting the whole "she's heartbroken because the only guy who ever showed her kindness in her life is in love with someone else and she doesn't want to be alone anymore because she's been lonely for as long as she can remember in a big house by herself with absentee parents and a useless brother" part, but they tended to do that.]

[He didn't listen into the journals enough to pick it if it was talked about, otherwise he could have understand it more.]

You ask that as if what I think matters.

Let's just say that between you and someone who says "don't hurt innocents but if they are Navy it's okay", I like you more. And I've yet to get any reason to dislike you.

It does! [Kodachi mostly didn't care about others, but she could spy a potential ally. It was always good to have someone on your side, after all.]

Besides, why say such nonsense? If one's willing to fight someone, they should be willing to fight anyone - unless, of course, said person is precious to them.

Sorry, Kodachi, but you're wrong there. Even if said person is precious to you, you should be ready and willing to fight them if circumstances ever take you that way. Otherwise, you just end with a huge and ridiculous weakness if someone with powers manages to disguise themselves as your precious one.

[And the way it's said makes it clear that he has been in that situation already.]

That sounds so sad and tragic! I don't know how anyone could ever do that - or survive that!

It's more like a pain in the ass, actually. But that may be just me.

[He can still feel his eye twitching at the memory of how his brothers got defeated by such a stupid trick.]

About the how... Beats me. I figure the way would show for each person in time if they care enough about not dying for a stupid reason.

[Shaking her head and going "nnn"!]

What happened?

[He just stares at the journal for a moment.]

Which one of the times do you want to hear about?

[BECAUSE THAT SHIT HAS BEEN PULLED ON HIM MORE TIMES THAN HE CARES TO COUNT.]

Four or so? I can just think of four from the top of my he- Five and I'm not thinking more about i-, wait, six. Oh, fuck it.

[Yes, there's definitively more than one. If you want sad and tragic Ikki's your guy.]

Oh . . . I feel sad for you!

[How do you not have trust issues at this rate.]

[Did you forget the part where you both stated how he hold no one in high esteem unless they proved themselves, Kodachi?]

... I'm warning you, if you start singing "poor unfortunate souls" to me I'm closing the journal.

[Aka enough with pitying him.]

[She could earn his high esteem later; what was important now was that she earned his interest. And if buttering him up was the way to do it, then so be it!]

Why would I do that?

I wanted to hear your story - if you would tell me, that is. But oh . . . it must be so tragic! How do you bear it?

How do you bear wanting something very simple and specific and not getting it even on an island dedicated to it? "Tragic" is a word that applies to everyone to different degrees, and I don't like when it's used like this. It makes me feel that it's not worth talking if you're going to end feeling bad because of something that happened in the past.

[Even if it probably is. Despite his words, though, Ikki's tone is actually almost gentle and incredibly tired.]

If you really want to hear it, for whatever reason, I will tell you. But please don't pull the "poor, poor Ikki-san" on me. I'm sure I've seen something more interesting in you than that, Kodachi.

[Don't disappoint him now, girl, you were going quite well and he doesn't answer positively to being buttered up.]

[She sighed and paused for a moment, reflecting, before finally replying to him.]

I do want to hear it because I'm interested - because I do have people dear to me, and I couldn't imagine having to fight them one day. [Throwing her brother around (which she did often) was one thing, but that was just sibling rivalry. Actually having to fight in combat to make a stand - that was another.]

I want to know more about you because you seem very wise.

[Flattery aside, she meant it; she might have been a selfish girl, but she could admire those with wisdom and noble ideals. (So long as they weren't at odds with her.)]

Now, that's something I can get behind.

Though rather than "wise" I would say that I'm jaded.

[He says it with some bitter humour.]

[There's a pause as he locks what he's going to say next. It's not a secret per say, but there's a difference between being willing to talk about it and announcing it to the whole world.]

As I said, I've several stories that can be under the field of having to be ready to fight your dear ones. But since it's hard to pick one, one question first, how long have you been here exactly?

Just a few months. It feels like an eternity, though!

[She arrived like . . . four months ago or so.]

A few months... So you weren't around on January, right? We had problems back then, a witch possessed several people and had them attacking and killing their crewmates. It's but one example of how you could end having to fight someone dear to you, unless they aren't in this world and never come.

The girl I was with back then was among those possessed, she killed a crewmate and then went on a rampage. I tried to free her from the control, but it was impossible. So I killed us both to stop her from hurting anyone else.

[And it was a huge mistake on his part, but for different reasons than what one would expect. His tone is serious and grave but whatever pain there may be is dull and faint, almost more like a memory of the pain than an actual current feeling.]

[Kodachi listened to his story quietly, trying to absorb everything that he'd said. It was true that she had a lack of empathy for those that she didn't know very well; however, the quickest way to get through to her was to phrase things in ways that were relevant to her. The poor people of Eternal Bliss? She didn't care because if her belongings burned down, that wouldn't matter to her - people lecturing her couldn't understand that. But could she imagine killing a crewmate, and then herself? Considering how she felt toward her crewmates, the very thought was abhorrent.]

That's terrible. What happened to the witch?

And . . . how is it that you're alive now? I assume that you're alive, at least . . .

She died... Or so we think. She hasn't shown up since then at least, but hell will freeze before I am confident that she won't return somehow. After all, she was already dead in the first place, returned as a ghost witch or a spirit or something.

[Besides, he didn't see it with his own eyes so he has a harder time believing that it was truly the end of it.]

As for how is it that I'm alive... I can't die, or rather, I can't stay dead for long. But even if I could, in this world, those of us who die will end returning to life sooner or later. I've had a few crewmates die and they all returned to live after some time. You could say it's one of the little privileges that we are allowed in this place.

When she returns, the people who have fought her before will be ready for her.

I see. [She ponders something for a while.] I had no idea it was so dangerous here - regardless, I have no plans of courting death.

I like that you're alive. I'm not certain how I'd feel about talking to a ghost.

Well, we will try to be. I want to doubt that the same trick won't work twice but who knows with the amount of idiots in this place.

[He chuckles at her next comments.]

It's definitively far more dangerous by itself than anything we can pull ourselves, at least individually. Though I don't know if those dangers are also true for the locals or if it's just us.

... And how would you feel about talking to a phoenix?
