voice/action for the Penguin
Maa, well... the wind seems to be dying down a bit.
[though it's still howling outside. He's been in the hold for the better part of three days because, among other things, his sleep mask kept blowing off. An ice shield on the deck was always an option, of course, but when it melted, Coby gave him long dramatic inward sighs and went to get the mop bucket.
So here he is, cross legged in the hold, playing cards, contemplating life and generally trying not to get a crick in his neck]
I hereby petition for a bigger ship. Though I'm not entirely sure which island would be the best choice for that.
[Flips over another card. Diamond. He can't help but think of Diamond Jozu -- Though he is not here. Twelfth Division Haruta, then. Haruta diamond, Portgas spade, Phoenix Marco the club and the hearts were for an entirely group of pirates all together so a high and low joker, then for the two relative uknowns. Fishman Namur. Fourth Divison nee Headhunter Thatch, rumored to have been assassinated by a former nakama but very much alive here. Though perhaps he was in the same boat with Portgas.]
Otherwise, who else would want to make peace with the Navy? [Club. Spade. Heart... he thought he'd shuffled all those out. To the side it goes. There was not a card for Marines of course. They were generally supposed to be the players]

[he doesn't doubt such a thing has occurred, really. Most of the people pulled here seem reckless in one form or another]

[Well now she just feels special.
And not in a good way.]
no subject
[he can explain it but... ]
Maa...never mind. It's not important.
In any case, I'm not interested in a temporary solution so people can have a safety net until they choose to be careless again.
[he's talking about Justice. In all it's capital letter glory. Well, implying it... Though he wonders if she is someone who will get the implication]

[And locked her in a fortress. That was fun.]
Maybe it would be better if they just went away.

[that he believes, despite whatever flaws the organization may have. There is much to be protected, besides, and not just from the native pirates. He's read back through the entries]
People should not be allowed to do whatever it is they wish, especially when it leads to murder and mayhem. There is no peace in anarchy.

[She knows she's an outsider in this world. It's something she's very used to. But that doesn't give anyone a reason to hunt her down.]
But that doesn't mean I get to attack random ships and kidnap people.
no subject
[that being said, he doesn't approve of the methods either. You attract more flies with honey... or was it the other way around? In either case, in situations like these it was best to sit back and sort out who may be beneficial and who is just in over there heads.
Charging after every fresh threat like a half mad dog was the sign of an insecure Navy and that could end up being troubling for them all over time]

Especially if most of us are just working to get home. Wouldn't things move faster if the Navy helped us?
[Except that will never happen, because the Navy is the Navy and pirates are pirates. Regardless of views, sheer stubbornness will prevent the two from ever cooperating.]

Consider, the Navy assists in reassembling the gem and once it is whole, it is for anyone to use. It will be war.
[Though not, he imagines from the Spades, at least not in that area. Portgas isn't the type to heavily rely on another's power. But there will be those that wish to stay as well as use the gem's supposed power--as well as political factions from within the Navy itself, no doubt, who would argue fiercely about letting pirates or outsiders use it for their gain since it is a gem from this world.
That's not even speaking of various governments and native pirates.
War with it together. War with it apart.
And he'd wanted to find out something else completely but got sidetracked.
Maa...well that was fine for now.]

[But if there was a choice between the survival of one group or the other, she knows which one she'd pick.]
This gem existed once before, right? How did it work back then?
no subject
But more importantly]
You sound cute, miss. I'd ask you out but it seems I've inadvertently gotten myself engaged.
no subject
M-me? No, I'm not cute, you've got the wrong girl.

W-what do you want to know those for?!

[he's spoken for after all]
There is something, though...

I forget. Probably something to do with Smoker.
[he usually couldn't keep the dumb things that guy said around very long]
no subject
[And how do you know him? Are you his nakama?]
no subject
[it would be a book of epic proportions and then Smoker would hit him with it.
Not worth the effort, really.]
no subject
[Come on. It must have been important.]
