1st Element: Written

[Wan decided to test the book with something written. It was better than looking like a fool and talking aloud to himself in a place full of cold-shouldered strangers who were obviously looking for more of a reason to fight him. He didn't know what he'd done to upset the town he woke up in, but it was clearly enough for them to be threatening to his person. And he really didn't want to get into a fight with anyone and risking harming bystanders.

Raava's silence was also a concern, but she had grown less talkative the longer they were joined. They didn't need to talk that often anymore. So he didn't put much thought behind that. Not yet, anyway.]


To the book that speaks back: Hello.

I have recently woken up in this place and I don't know or recognize anything about it. I've traveled all over my world and nothing like this village exists. I would like to learn more about it, but the people aren't very friendly and most refuse to speak to me.

So I ask you, hopefully helpful book, for your aid.

I'm not really concerned about my safety, I can handle myself. But I have a friend... an animal friend. She's a catdeer and she answers to the name 'Mula'. If there are a lot of catdeer in this place, she'll be the one with a bedroll and small travel pack tied over her back. Please don't hurt her, she'll do you no harm. If she runs, that's okay. Just tell me where you saw her and I'll get her.

Well, yeah. But why would they speak more than one language?

I just happens when people groups of people live far away from each other. People come up with different names for things in different places.

They didn't in my world. Humans have been living on Lion Turtle cities for as long as anyone can remember and most of them don't even know there are other lion turtle cities out there. They think they're the only human settlements. But we all speak the same language.

[Of course, that could have something to do with all the Lion Turtles speaking the same language, but Wan didn't put that much thought into it to realize that.]

Isolation tends to mean that doesn't happen. There has to be something that influenced those settlements. [Aliens going around secretly seeding culture isn't unheard of in his universe.]

Wait your living on top of a giant turtle? What happens if it decides to dive?

Well, I think only the Water Lion Turtle would dive anywhere, but even the Earth Lion Turtle doesn't bury itself so far under ground that it threatens to harm any of the houses or people.

I'd imagine it have to dig one hell of a hole. [Even if the cities Wan are talking about were just villages it have to be huge.]

Well, the Earth Lion Turtle did, sure. The Air Lion Turtle could fly. The Water Lion Turtle sat on the shores of a very swampy area. And the Fire Lion Turtle sat in the middle of large valley where the valley ended in a sheer cliff face.
