[Mitsunari's voice may not be a familiar one as he uses the journal so infrequently. Today he's actually bothering with it because he's realized there's a practical, productive use he can get out of the darn thing. What is that, you ask?
He can spread propaganda for a dead guy!]
"Hideyoshi Toyotomi."
If you have never before heard this name--my lord's name--commit it to memory immediately. You are no longer allowed to claim ignorance of his existence.
Lord Hideyoshi was an exemplary person. A paragon! His noble ambition was to unify the Land of the Rising Sun once and for all! Though his life was cruelly extinguished by Ieyasu Tokugawa, I am speaking now to ensure that his memory persists.
When you hear that name, understand that it commands respect! Know it belonged to a man whose magnificence will never, in all of time, be matched by another!
...
And if you are aware of my lord's works and still choose not to acknowledge his greatness, know that your behavior is absolutely unconscionable!
[So! ...Any questions?]

Did Tokugawa not accomplish the very same task of uniting Japan? It seems the disagreement wasn't over the goal, but over who would rule the reunited nation.
[voice]
He hasn't succeeded in his endeavors because I will oppose him to the bitter end.

Your Hideyoshi sounds a whole lot better than ours.

Give the poor man a second, he's a little discombobulated.]
...And what sort of man is "your" Lord Hideyoshi?
[Should...should he be outraged that someone is speaking ill of a Hideyoshi?]

You good for nothing dog! First you insist we are the best of friends and drive me up the wall in doing so, and then you turn around and speak like this about my lord--
Where are you.

The knowledge humans have is so limited. People remember what they will whether that's what happened or not.
You should save you worship for the Gods. Some of them get really uptight when their followers don't seem to care.

Are you finished? Because I really hope you are. One lord from one plane who wanted to unite one little kingdom is no different from any other in the grand scheme of things. If he's dead, then he's dead and it's probably better for the common folk that he is.

Unconscionable. In other words, gravely unacceptable. Do you understand?

[ He trails off there to leave an opening. ]
voice;
[That said, he isn't going to pass up a chance to talk some more about how super totally awesome Hideyoshi was. But where to begin?]
He was my lord because, long ago, he graciously allowed me the privilege of becoming his subordinate. Everything I am, I owe to him.
To your second question; the country was divided in every sense of the word. Lord Hideyoshi saw that the nation was becoming weak as a result, and he aspired to remedy that weakness through the strength that unification under Toyotomi rule would afford.

I will accept that this man is perhaps great, and I will respect your loyalty as I share that quality. But I will not accept this individual as being capable of standing at the same height as my own lord.
Voice
Hmph. I see no challenge here! A notable figure he may be, but ultimately he is no Lord Hideyoshi! Take note of the error in your judgment and admit that my lord does not merely stand at your prince's height, but surpasses him!
