[The writing is large and looping and it looks like proper penmanship has been abandoned in favor of looking girly and cute.]

Since Selphie was reading love poetry, I started thinking about love again. How depressing, right? I'm beginning to think that being a pirate means not having manners or treating ladies with respect. Sure, there are some exceptions, but the things I've had to go through, honestly...

Do you think the perfect guy is really out there? My lord Ujiyasu would always say that my standards are too high, but what's wrong with high standards? If you set your standards too low, that's what you're going to be stuck with. That's what I think, at least.

Whoa! That's seriously messed up! [She cringes. Man, her heart aches for Kai, it truly does.] I can see why you don't want to settle! That guy would be such an awful husband.

Right?! [Finally, someone else who understands!] And he keeps trying to impress me, but he's just so arrogant and ugh. Is a guy with a noble bearing and refined manners too much to ask for?

Yeah, jeez! And if you find them, they're engaged already or afraid of women!

[Okay, well, maybe she's thinking more about rich nobles than people with "noble bearing", but same difference.]

So who's that creep? We should teach him a lesson!

His name is Ace and he's the captain of the Spades. If you run into him, it can totally be your turn to deal with him. I don't want to see him again for a good long time.

[Not that it's stopping him from commenting on her journal entries. It's like he's never actually gone.]

You're not on his ship, are you?

NO!! [She would never. Not even to go see Selphie.] I'm on his brother's ship, though, which is just as bad sometimes.

Why don't you just ditch both of them? They sound like awful people!

They're not bad people, not really, they're just not husband material. For anyone.

[Though she's basing that more on their reputation and other people's testimony. They do certainly seem to care about each other and Luffy cares a lot about the crew he knows from home, so she's willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for that, at least.]

[Anise isn't so sure based on what she's heard, but Kai would know better than her.]

Well, okay! So, do you know anyone who's even close to husband material?

That depends, I guess. I haven't met anyone I'd marry, but some of the guys I've met aren't so bad. The cook on our ship is a pretty good guy.

[Except for all the cursing and the weird wiggling thing he does and the way he fights with Zoro like the two of them are overgrown five year olds.]

Hmm, my standards aren't too high, so...

What's he like? Does he come from a rich family?

I haven't really asked but, I mean, he's a cook, right?

[Class prejudices, she has them.]

Still, he's pretty polite and the food he makes is really good and he treats us ladies really well, so I can't really complain too much.

[The sad thing is, Anise agrees. You wouldn't be a cook if you're well-off! You'd just keep it as a hobby or something.]

I guess you can't have everything! As for me, I've met a pretty charming guy from that Host Club thing.

Host Club? What's that? Were there any other guys?

[She should probably start taking notes.]

Yeah, there were a bunch of guys! They all looked pretty rich and sophisticated, heheh. ♥ I'm not really sure, but I think the Host Club is some kind of entertainment thing? Tamaki - he's the guy I spoke to, he said they were there to entertain people! [She scrunches up her nose.] Usually you have to pay for it, but I got in while they were doing it for free.

[MALE PROSTITUTES?!]

I-I don't know if I should...

[Kai, product of 16th century Japan as she is, is now thoroughly scandalized. But not uninterested.]

Why not? It was pretty fun!

[And Anise is blissfully unaware of the thoughts running through Kai's mind.]

[The more she thinks about it, the more wild her assumptions become.]

There were, um, a lot of girls going there?

Hmm... [A small pause as she thinks back.] There were a few, but it wasn't really crowded or anything! It's nice not having to compete for attention.

So you have to compete...but, um, don't you pay for attention? Oh, or is it that some of them are more popular than others and everyone wants a chance...

[She's heard men talking about, er, those sorts of places, but to think there might be one that women could frequent. This is truly a strange and alien place.]
