[The writing is large and looping and it looks like proper penmanship has been abandoned in favor of looking girly and cute.]

Since Selphie was reading love poetry, I started thinking about love again. How depressing, right? I'm beginning to think that being a pirate means not having manners or treating ladies with respect. Sure, there are some exceptions, but the things I've had to go through, honestly...

Do you think the perfect guy is really out there? My lord Ujiyasu would always say that my standards are too high, but what's wrong with high standards? If you set your standards too low, that's what you're going to be stuck with. That's what I think, at least.

It's true he's more of a front lines fighter and less of a tactician, but he's still an excellent commander. Everyone recognizes him as the greatest warrior in Japan, even the Tokugawa. The fat old tanuki himself said as much.

[She feels like she has to defend the Yukimura she knows, even though he's not actually the one Magoichi is talking about. He's someone she truly admires and someone her ~~best friend~~ close acquaintance has been in love with since forever, so she won't tolerate anyone badmouthing him.]

Then I hope to one day meet him. I would like to see his skills for myself.

[Her own Yukimura always had potential, but the fact that he never looked to replace his lord always served as a block to that. If he learned how to competently command, he would be a worthy opponent.]

You'll be impressed, I guarantee it! I wouldn't mind seeing him here myself. He could even bring that--

Nevermind.

[That ninja can stay behind.]

Heh. We shall see.

[If he doesn't live up to Kai's praise, she'll be pretty disappointed. She'll leave the other person she was about to mention alone for now. Kai seems like the kind of person that will bring them up again sooner or later.]

So, tell me more about yourself. It is not often that I get to meet another woman that knows her way around the battlefield.

[With Nouhime and Oichi dead and Itsuki retired, she's down to Uesugi's ninja, Matsu, and Tsuruhime. Motochika and them are all well and good, but the lack of female companionship that can relate to what she does has been noticeable.]

Let's see...well, like I said, I served the Hōjō and now the Toyotomi. I usually focus on defensive sort of stuff, keeping the castle and the town safe and things like that. I was raised to be a proper lady, of course, but when you're as strong as you are beautiful, it's kind of a waste of your talents to just sit around being pretty all day. I mean, not that I'm not always pretty, but it's a waste for me not to fight. I was trained to use a sword, but after training with Kotarō...you know of him, right? I mean, you know about the Hōjō after all...anyway, after training with him, I started using a whip-sword instead and that's what I've stuck with ever since. Um.

[She pauses, not quite sure what to talk about next. It's quite possibly the longest she's ever managed to talk without getting interrupted before.]

What else would you like to know?

A good view to take on such matters. [Magoichi has a low opinion on those that expect all their battles to be fought for them, especially if they have the power do so on their own.]

I am familiar with that ninja, yes. Is he mute in your world, as well? [It would probably be difficult for him to teach if he was.]

I hope we will be able to meet in person at some point. I have only seen one wielder of a whip-sword before, but he was quite skilled with it. It seems to be quite the interesting fighting style.

[Ordinarily, this would be the point where she'd start asking about more martial matters, but there would be little point in doing so when Kai's army isn't here, and she seems unlikely to know in the first place since she said she was primarily an extra line of defense.]

Perhaps you could tell me what else interests you; any companions you have, your hobbies, your day-to-day life, that sort of thing.

[She thinks she's managed to keep track of all of the questions. Might as well answer them one at a time.]

The Kotarou you know is mute? The one I know definitely talks. [And is extremely creepy about it, too.] I'm not really sure what's up with him, actually. [What with the extending arms and blue skin.]

But, anyway, if you want to meet up some day, I'm sailing with the Strawhats. That's Luffy's crew. If you want to test your strength, it's a really good opportunity. We have a pretty diverse set of fighting styles.

[A diverse set of everything really, considering the magic talking ponies and the not so magic talking bear.]

And then, um, my hobbies and interests, right? Well, I like makeup and fashion a lot, so there's that. A friend of mine says she's going to start loaning me romance novels to read, which sounds like fun. She was reading love poetry earlier and for once I actually understood it! Let's see, what else...well, my best friend here would be the one I just mentioned. Her name is Selphie and she sails with the Spades. I haven't really made that many other friends because I think pirates and ladies just don't mix well, but I'm trying.

[She promised Celestia she'd make friends with Pinkie, but Pinkie is kind of terrifying.]

Functionally, yes. Not even Ujimasa has heard him speak, and he's been employed by the Hōjō for some time, now. No one knows much about him, beyond that he's a mercenary ninja that's very good at what he does. [So that much is the same.]

Luffy? I believe I spoke with him, once. He seemed to be... quite the character. [Enough of one that he never mentioned his name, though digging around the journal let her find it soon enough.] He said that he was in alliance with Motochika - that is, the captain of the Katabami - so it seems that we'll be seeing each other soon enough. As for tests of strength, I am already looking forward to it.

[Though, if Luffy remembered to say something, Zoro would have first dibs. She hopes she won't have gone rusty by then. There isn't a lot of opportunity to practice your aim on the open sea.]

I apologize. I did not mean to ask you so many questions at once. You seem to be quite the feminine woman. It is a shame such things are foreign waters to me. [And thus leaving her unable to comment on... most of that.] If the pirates you know are anything like the pirate I'm familiar with, not mixing well would be an understatement. Still, I would be willing to continue speaking with you, should you wish it.

[Nothing about friendship in there, because she needs to maintain her neutrality should relations between their crews go sour, but it's a step in the right direction.]

I'd like that! I keep an eye on this journal thing to see what Selphie is up to, so if you have anything to say, I'll see it. This is the first time I've written anything myself, but I'll try to write more. I really didn't expect so many people to respond, after all. I have a lot more people to keep track of.

[Kindred spirits, too, which is a relief. She's been going a little bit stir crazy.]
