[After a rather interesting run-in with a certain witch, Chandra decides that perhaps it's time to actually use the stupid book. Not that she'd have waited too terribly long, because hell, the idea of a magic notebook is actually somewhat intriguing.

When she speaks into the recorder, there's an odd bubbling sound, and her voice is modulated strangely at first.]

Right, so. I guess this thing works. If it doesn't then I'm talking at a book like a moron.


First of all, I'm new here. My name's Chandra and apparently I'm stuck here like the rest of you. That's...a pretty new experience for me, to be completely honest and I'm not sure how to take it. But then, what can you do.

With that in mind, I guess the normal thing to do seems to be finding some people to sail with and find this weird gem, and I guess that's the next order of business. I'm a Task Mage by trade, meaning that I do all sorts of odd jobs and I often do them with magic. Hire me on and you'll have artillery without compare. I've never found a ship, door, wall, or bad guy I can't take care of, or a mountain I can't craterize. [She pauses, laughing cheerily.] And my favorite way to destroy something is utterly, so...if you've got problems just point me at 'em and stand clear and they won't be problems anymore.

Also, I've been on a ship a few times, enough to know my way around but not enough to get into any real trouble...and if it's physical stuff you need done I'm pretty good for that too. And if I can't? One of my little buddies can take care of it. And if that's not enough, I'm also young, hot, and full of stories. Some of them not fit for children.

[She lets out a little cackle, and the modulation in her voice stops, her tone getting a little bit more serious too.]

Also, that witch that was talking about sending people home? That's a bust. Ignore her. She's just trying to steal energy or something. I destroyed the construct she's using, but I figure it'll be back later on tonight or tomorrow. Also, do yourself a favor and steer clear of the plaza for an hour or two.

Oh, and if you don't like talking over these journal things? I'll be at the bar.

I can. What do you wanna know?

Did she seem hostile and irritated at all to you? Did she say or do anything strange, and could you explain what you mean by trying to steal energy?

No, she was really friendly, right up till she tried to steal my mana. It's obviously a trick, you know. She's trying to sucker you in.

And I mean that she was trying to steal my mana, you know...my magical power? Just drain it away. She got a tiny bit, then I dealt with the problem.

Could you describe what she looked like for me?

Pale, dark cloak, dark hood. Didn't get a look at her face, though.

Thank you, I appreciate the help. If you encounter someone particularly irritable, they may not entirely be of their own mind. There's some kind of illness spreading and we're searching for the source. It's a madness of sorts.

That other guy says the witch knows mind magic. It's a probable link.

And if they're irritated with me, it could just be a natural reaction to my charming persona.

Ah, I've been there. It would make sense that some sort of mind control is being used. I'll have to report this information back to my crew. Is there any information I can offer you in exchange?

Introductions are nice. Also, recommendations for good food. Places to find work, too. I mean, apparently I've gotta get off this island.

I apologize for my rudeness. Yuuki or Koide is fine. I don't care for my first name, nor do I care which people use.

I didn't find the food at the inn all that appetizing, but the food on the island with the hot springs is pretty good. It's better to have a crew with a good cook though. Ours is pretty good.

We haven't really been working, aside from with the crew. There's a lot of work on the ship to be done. We've been sailing together a few months now. The people of the island there aren't very friendly for very long.

Yuuki? Right, I'll...try and remember that.

[Chandra laughs herself.]

Well, good cooks are important. And work I can do. You guys have a spare bunk?

Because of the problems we're having at the moment with the witch, I can't ask the Captain, but I can ask Marco, or Thatch.

What's up with your captain? And who're those two?

[reluctantjinrou]

Earlier today our captain, Ace lost his temper, screaming at people over the journals and attacked one of the other crew members. He didn't seem like himself, at all. He's separated from us for the time being.

Marco and Thatch are people he knew from home, both of which are very knowledgeable about sailing and the crew, and they've taken care of the situation. It's Marco I need to share this information with regardless, since we're trying to figure out the cause and if more people are getting sick. Ace isn't the only one acting strange.

Fucking mind-mages.

[Chandra growls at the thought.]

That's totally their typical operating procedure. You have a lot of people with this sickness?

It's good to have an idea of what we could be dealing with. It caught us by surprise. Both Ace and Sora have been shouting at people on the journals. We're working to figure that out now. It's not the best time to arrive here for you, unfortunately. There was nothing like this happening then.

Hey, what can I say? I'm a real lucky girl.

And, y'know, if I can get a good look at them, maybe I can do something. I'm not real good with mind-magic, it's the wrong color for me, but I'm pretty good at undoing it and blocking it. Maybe I can do something.

That would be a real selling point in your favour, I'll be sure to mention that to Marco.

I've been thinking about it since you said something, but I'm not sure I could change the effects. At least with hypnosis, the first person in is who wins control. I don't know if I could do something. I'll have to try though, if I can get close enough.

[Or strong enough. He has to think about it a little more.]

As if I needed more. [She laughs again]

I'd be careful, though. Mind magic is tricky business. Sometimes you can undo it, sometimes you can't, and you have to know when to stop or you'll break something. It's easier to learn to block it out...which I can teach, than it is to undo it.

[It's a little longer to get a reply this time, but it's worth it.]

I use hypnosis and if it was hypnosis, it wouldn't work, I don't think there would be harm in trying at least to get them to forget about whatever it is they're listening to. It probably depends on how strong the spell is.

Is that so? [She sounds pretty pleased about that.] Where should I meet up with you then?

And yeah, hypnosis isn't mind magic. Could be worth a shot...but I'd be careful. From what I know, it doesn't work on everyone anyway.

I've had good luck with hypnosis so far, so it probably couldn't hurt to try.

What you do to get here, is find Backwater Brig. It's a shop in town. You can get pretty much anything you need there at a reasonable price from the owner. They can let you use the Nav. You want the Sun or the Moon. Those are our two ships.

If you're coming now, I'm currently on the Sun.

The Nav? Is that some sort of spell?

And I guess coming now is probably best. Is there anything from town you need? I have some coins I don't remember picking up.
