[A crew of three, they had proven, could easily bring in a haul of 1,500 doubloons in one action, if they chose an appropriate target. Which left The Dragon Emperor with 428 doubloons unclaimed.

That was entirely by design. Azula wanted that money in reserve for just this occasion.

While she might understand how speaking to the journal worked now, she most certainly wasn't going to begin that way. Besides, business arrangements should be made in writing.]

On behalf of Captain James Hook of The Dragon Emperor, I would like to offer a position on the crew.

We accept all levels of experience of seamanship and will compensate based upon that.

The Dragon Emperor is a fighting vessel with the aim to make a profit.

The captain is willing to offer a bonus to those willing to make their mark in his book:

- For the novices, twenty doubloons for six months' promised service.
- For the familiar, thirty-five doubloons for six months' promised service.
- For the experienced, fifty doubloons for six months' promised service.

If you wish to promise your service for a longer time, a larger incentive may be negotiated.

Those who breach this contract will forfeit their initial fee as well as their cut of the last prize taken. Those who attempt to abscond with their money without completing their contract will be considered thieves against the crew and deserters and will be tracked down and treated as such.

[As always, she signs her name in the same style she's written.]

[Azula can see the island they're bound for in the distance. A few more hours of sailing, and they'll make landfall. Good time getting there, all things considered.]

Good afternoon.

[Because in civilized society, people start with a greeting.

Her writing is the same as before, carefully composed and flowing script.]

A thought occurred to me as I was discussing the weather with a local at the island I found myself on originally.

It is late winter here, and my birthday is in early spring. However, the last I remember, it was late spring, so my birthday had just been celebrated. I received a rather lovely gift, as a matter of fact.

[Coronation as the Earth Queen was no small matter, after all.]

How, then, would those more familiar with this place suggest I mark the time? Do I treat this coming birthday as the one I already celebrated or take it as the next?

[Any speech that comes from the book, she will attempt to ignore. If it persists, the book may not be the only thing she sets fire to, this time.]

[The journal Azula has finally glanced at fascinates her. It's like an extremely expedited form of messenger hawk. Not only that, but one can speak to it as well.

She's never seen anything like it, and it's taken a few days for her to feel comfortable using it.

On the morning of the tenth, she feels the time has come.]

To whom it may concern:

[The writing is almost calligraphy, carefully rendered, flowing script. She's certainly taking her time.]

Captain James Hook is recruiting a crew for his new vessel.

Experienced sailors are greatly appreciated, though those new to the profession will not be turned away, provided they are willing to work and learn.

The captain promises profit and adventure to those willing to join.

[She renders her name is no greater or less care than the rest of the words.]

[At first there's nothing before a doodle )

slowly starts to appear in the corner of the paper. Hector's not going to be winning any art contests, and it's clearly a thing that's from memory as there are slight hesitations here and there as it takes shape, but finally when it's done, the silence stretches, and at first...That seems to be it. That's the entry.

But only because he's really, really loathe to ask you lot a damn thing.]

Color me...Stupidly curious, but given what's going on at the moment, I don't suppose anyone's clapped their eyes on a bit of shine as looks like that, have they.

[Because considering what he's heard over this stupid journal, that is a distinct and worrisome possibility.]
