[ Weiss has been keeping to herself for a few days, really only having spoken with Ruby and Jaune so far.. but this situation has come to a climax. She can't take it anymore. She has to do something! Even if it means acknowledging the other people who may or may not actually be pirates. ]

I'm going to ask you all a question and one of you had better have an answer! Is there anywhere in this place to sleep that isn't full of smelly drunkards? Maybe a place with an ice machine that looks a little more like it's got zero chance of bugs.

[ Weiss's tone is dead serious. She has absolutely no tolerance for this quality of rooming. Bunk beds, dorm rooms? Fine. They're clean, warm, and more than comfortable at the top school for huntresses and hunters. They definitely aren't situated over a noisy bar. The other option was to actually get a ship and she wasn't going to deal with a tiny little dinghy-- that would probably be worse than the room. ]

I know my standards can be a little high sometimes... but there is absolutely no way I'm staying in a place that's not even fit for animals for one more night. [ The last three words are punctuated to emphasize her point. ]

More or less, are you used to such opposing creatures? The kind that truly threaten the livelihood of man?

The creatures of Grimm inhabit most of the earth and are constantly trying to wipe out humanity. They don't have souls, they just kill whatever's in front of their face. That's why people like me go to school to train to be hunters and huntresses to help fight against them.

That is most frightening! I would say they sound near to youkai, though I am sure youkai have some sort of soul within them.

What's different about a youkai from a grimm?

I suppose youkai are more discerning of their targets. Many are violent and dangerous, but most do not indiscriminately kill all things before them. I would have to know more of your grim to say much more.

There are a number of different classifications of Grimm, but the one thing they all have in common is a particular white and red mask. They have no soul, and therefore no aura. They are all dangerous and they're all shaped like animals, but corrupted versions. They've been around as long as we have, but they just want to destroy. It sounds like your youkai are capable of thought and decision-making, so there's a huge difference right there.

That they are, though some are as beasts and share no higher reasoning. However that is only some. They are still for the most part a great enemy to man, as most feed of us in one way or another. Your Grimm sound closer to those of the beasts, who act purely on instinct and instinct alone.

Exactly. I'm sorry that you have to deal with those, even if it's only some of them.

They are easier to put down than the ones who are more capable. But then I am one who is particularly skilled at such acts, and feel more worry for the common man who may run across them without any means of defence.

So you're trained like a huntress then? [ Or whatever the huntress equivalent in her world is. ]

I suppose, perhaps. It is the duty of the strong to protect those who are not as strong. My clan is that of a warrior clan and I was one gifted with powers not all are granted. It is only to be expected.

You didn't volunteer then?

[ Because there's a big difference in how that works. ]

Not particularly, no. I have never really thought of it in such a way. But then of course, hunting youkai has never been an actual duty of mine. Though a lot of my interests and skills go well against them. I also do not like them, so fighting those who are dangerous is a pleasure.

But, I believe that if given such a situation I would be glad to volunteer my services.

That's a relief.

What do you do usually if you don't need to?

Before, long ago, I was raised to be a priest. I also became the head of my clan. However, that was another life. Currently I am simply that of a hermit who studies the Tao.

You remember your past life?

[ Weiss is sure that some worlds have that anyway, though she's not so sure that's how her world works. ]

Ah, no, not quite. I meant it more as... it was so long ago, it might as well be another life. Or, more, it was during my mortal life time, which in essence was another life. Since I am now a shikaisen, an immortal hermit.

Let me get this straight. You're an immortal who used to be mortal, is in charge of a clan, but also became a hermit?

More or less. Of course my clan is long gone, I am the only one left. Immortality came with becoming a hermit as well.

[ Okay, that makes sense. She could see being a hermit or being a clan leader, but the two seem to have conflicting needs if they were at the same time. ]
