[Yes, voice is what you get because Shepard is accustomed to dictation software with his omni-tool.]
This is Commander Shepard, Systems Alliance Navy. Considering the crew of the Normandy and I only had enough time to gently interrogate the locals on the main island before we were kindly asked to leave, the location of a friendly port or merchant ship to restock supplies would be appreciated.
I would also like to personally extend my thanks to the person responsible.
[All the fucking sarcasm in the world.]
Shepard out.
[And shortly after there's a little addendum made private to the Normandy crew.]
Not exactly inclined to trust just anyone out there, but I'm sure you've all seen the reports about an impending attack. If there's a chance one of our people will show up behind enemy lines, we should make some plans.
Swimming lessons at noon.

At least Thanksgiving leftovers seem to last FOREVER.]
Apparently? You don't sound convinced.
[voice]
[Assuming he does--and he won't--but Codi is all about jumping to conclusions.]
[voice]
[voice]
[Speaking of good information...]
So you were on the island when it was taken over?
[voice]
[Read: starting a brawl in a bar.]
[voice]
[voice]
Sure.
[What, you wanted to know specifics?]
[voice]
I'll take your word for it. How many are we talking about? Well-organized? All armed? Armed with what?
[voice]
[voice]
Or are you afraid a little lady like myself is going to step on your toes?
[voice]
As for that first thing, don't act so offended. I did say thanks.
[voice]
So let me be the first to tell you that we're not all aiming to burn down every island in this stupid place, and those that are not aiming to do so would greatly appreciate any information they could use to improve the lives of the natives and our misinformed foreign ilk. Particularly when one such individual (not pointing any fingers even if I could over these journals, but here's a hint it's me) bothered to be helpful in the first place. Is it too much to ask for you to return the favor?
[voice]
Like I said, that sort of information could get a lot of people killed.
[And since he's spent the last few months sending millions to their deaths so that billions could live, he's the type that likes to get his facts straight.]
Honestly, I don't trust any of you yet. But hey, I'd be willing to trade information on the weather. Sunshine and blue skies from where I'm standing. Consider us even.
[voice]
Cute, but if I wanted to know the weather I would look outside. Not exactly covert information we're dealing with, here.
I guess I have to be more blunt. If you've been keeping up with the other recent entries in your journal, you may have noticed a trend in the topics people are writing about. Something to do with going back to Empieza, and making sure the new arrivals--such as yourself--can get off the island without being slaughtered by the Navy. Maybe even convince them that we're not as bad as we look, if we're lucky? But we can't just go in there without knowing what we're dealing with, can we, else they'll kill us before we can negotiate with them! You see my problem?
[voice]
On the other hand, I have someone I've never met face-to-face asking me for the effective military strength of a group of people I don't even consider an enemy yet and who might have, in all honesty, saved a lot of lives by halting some sort of attack and bringing order to an otherwise chaotic situation.
Do you see my problem?
[voice]
But you're right, of course--I would offer to meet you in-person, but my crew is planning to save the Nav for more important matters that will be coming up soon, so I don't think they'd be very happy with me using it. As that's not an option, I was hoping my generous disposition would be convincing enough, but I was mistaken! I guess the only thing I can offer you now is the assurance that, with a better idea of what we're getting into, all of us could approach this situation with greater tact and fatalities could be avoided on all sides.
We're going to Empieza whether you give us this information or not. It's up to you to make the process less painful for everyone involved.
[voice]
[GOTTA GET HOME AND SAVE EARTH.]
[But hell, he knows they're going to sail back and sneak onto the island themselves to do their thing.]
[voice]
[Worth a try! Not that she's worried they won't succeed in their mission or anything...]
no subject
Even if he really would like to help, it's just not going to happen. You don't get to be some sort of legendary military leader by doing amateurish things like that. Yes, he's an asshole, but he's a asshole who's got a crew and a whole other universe to worry about first and foremost. Giving away free tips to anonymous book-talkers isn't really something he's into.
Sadly, he doesn't bother responding -- just shrugs and goes back to probably trying to figure out how to actually make their ship more combat-worthy.]
