[It's been a day or so since the battle and the Doctor has had time to calm down and get his head together. Everyone is relatively alright, sure, and the Navy fortress has been reduced to a smoldering heap by Ace, Ikki, and his own inventions. But he's got a few thoughts about all of this, and as usual he's not terribly good at the whole staying quiet thing.]

Right, so, I've got a bit of a question. Aside from the whole...stereotypical law thing...does anyone know exactly why the Navy of this world is out to get us? Most of us aren't really out to overthrow governments, steal things, and plunder ships.

'Course, that doesn't seem to matter much, does it? No, not really. And it sort of makes one wonder what sort of nonsense assumptions they're working under. At least, it does me.

Anyway. Guess that's a moot point for me. [His voice gets a bit colder.] Magnets, it seems, are a wonderful tool for causing all kinds of mayhem with their forts. So, I guess if any of you listening to this are Navy types, I'd appreciate it if you'd not give me cause to come up with something new. Next time I won't be so forgiving.

[And it softens again as his warning is delivered.]

Oh, right. And also if anyone knows where I can find a few well polished bits of quartz, well...I need them for a bit of a project.

[And with that random barrage of information, the Doctor closes the book, apparently already distracted by something else.]

[Honestly, all of that could've been done discreetly, and Ace probably did need a good talking to.]

No, we won't. But I suppose that now they have a good reason to chase after this particular crew at least, I doubt they liked how we wrecked that fort.

Well they picked the fight. So, they'll just have to deal with the consequences. I'm already working on ways to hide us, so that shouldn't happen again.

Yeah. Exactly.

What kind of thing is quartz used on normally anyway?

Well, it's just a cheap, cloudy gem.

Wait so it's a cheap gem? So it shouldn't be hard to find pieces of it?

Not at all, it's just a matter of asking to make things easier.

Got any luck so far?

A bit, yes. Someone's got some for me. Shouldn't be a problem. And worse comes to worse, I'll grab some during the attack.

Will you really go shopping in the middle of a raid?

I believe it's called looting, in fact.

You could do it after the battle as well, you know.

Yes, but who's to say it will survive? This is going to be a big one, you know.

Personally I'm going to aim for the soldiers, not the buildings. But taking into account our captain you are probably right. What will you use for this one? Magnets could be dangerous for the city.

I've got a toned down version of my magnetic sword ready. Upgraded it a bit, should be able to direct the magnetic field better. But mostly I'd just planned on using my screwdriver and psychic paper. I mean to, y'know...rescue people. Leave the fighting to the rest of you.

I supposed you would. Rescuing people should be our priority though, we can kick their asses better after that.

How can a screwdriver help you on this, though?

Oh plenty of ways. It's pretty much the most useful tool you could ask for. Except when it comes to wood. It doesn't do wood.

What? So it works on crystal, for example, but not on wood?

Yes, exactly. Wood has this habit of dampening sonic waves a lot better than crystal, for instance.

I would have thought stones or thick metal would do that, not wood. Is it because the wood is organic?

Don't know, actually. Could be, that would make sense. I just know that something about wood is incompatible.

You know, with what little I know of you, I would have expected you to be the type that knows everything.

[Though he supposes that "everything" is probably a little too much.]
