THIS WORLD SUCKS!!!

[For someone that's been forced to write in a diary for the past seven years, Luke's handwriting sure does look like cheagle scratch. It doesn't help that he's fed up and annoyed, which only serves to make his already crappy handwriting that much worse.]

I used to love the ocean, but I can't stand it any more! All we ever do is sail over here, get attacked by giant moths, sail over here, lose some crew members in a fog, sail over here, pick up some brats. It's so damn boring, and now we're going back to that stupid island we started out from again!? Even though everyone said we should get off of there as soon as possible?!

I hate this! I want something different to do!

Maybe something like... [Hmm.] exploring a deserted island and digging around for buried treasure? Oh! Or how about we ask around and get someone to join our crew and teach us sword fighting.

[Because this is what Asbel would like himself. He grins and mimics swinging a sword in slow motion with the mop.]

...anything that doesn't involve heat and being chased by giant moths again. And besides, I already have the best sword master ever; why would I want another one?

We could sail up north, then! Hubert claims the farther north you go, the colder it gets. Or at least he read that somewhere. And maybe it'd be too snowy for moths to fly around in. I sure wouldn't mind seeing lots of snow!

Wait. You do...? [Wow! Asbel's face lights up and he leans a little closer.] So, this master of yours. Is he a knight or something? D'you think I could meet him?

Master Van is a commandant, not just any other knight. And...

[He paused at that, frowning.]

[Luke pls.] Well if heat's no good and cold's no good, how about something in the middle?

[Oh... A commandant. A commandant!] I'll bet he had to undergo years of training for that. Being promoted to commandant means your sword master's an exceptional knight and a really good leader, too!

But if he isn't here, he's not going to be able to teach you anything for a while. And you have to keep practicing these things if you want to get strong. Even I know that!
