[Ihrie had been wavering on joining Dirk's crew since there was something about him that bothered her - not that she could say what it was really - but the money... well, that tended to sway her against her doubts just about every time.]

I know what the First Mate is, which is why I needed to know if there was more compensation involved. Especially if I have to wrangle idiots.

Let's say that unless I get a juicier offer by the end of the day, I'll take that position as First Mate.

Honestly, my decision isn't based off of your experience. It's based on the fact that you showed concern for others and seemingly would be willing to have absolute loyalty and care to your crew. If I'm gonna be making a new "family" here, that's the mindset I want them to have.

Then you better hope no one offers me something better. I will say, I think I'm a bit like you in that it's hard to get my trust and I don't exactly show it in an obvious way. I push people to do their best and I'm really abrasive about it, but it tends to work.

Quick question. When you say magical knowledge, do you know how to cast spells like a wizard? I found another potential but she insists she works best with a wizard around who can cast spells and has a lot of energy.

Awesome, saves us the trouble of having to find another one somewhere. This chick's pretty demanding, but she's got experience so she'll be useful.

Also snagged us a cook in the meantime, haven't met him yet but he's out doing price checks on produce. Only thing he's really good for is agricultural and farm animal knowledge but even that's useful for when we're loading up on supplies. And he claims to be highly intelligent and willing to learn, so we'll see how that goes.
