Piracy for people forced into piracy, then. I know the feeling. If you're okay with being aboard a ship that's looking to protect the seas from themselves - or rather, keeping everyone safe when the Navy doesn't feel like it - we might be just what you're looking for.

A word of warning - regardless of what kind of ship you join, the Navy is out for all our heads. Think carefully about what you want to do and who you want to join, but you will be in danger no matter the choice. It would be best if you're confident in your ability to defend yourself. I've had fun out here, and it's been exciting, but I have no illusions that this place is safe. Please be careful, okay?

Mm. No matter what crew you end up on, I think it's reasonable to hope that everyone makes it home. Wherever "home" is, no matter how much you might dislike someone... [She shakes her head, not that Misha can see.]

Are you from an era where ships like this are common, or somewhere else? Cars, planes... or maybe in the other direction?

Yeah... home. Not that I expect all of us to get along and work together, but I've got nothing against anyone, yeah. Might as well help the fellow man, right? [ Not that she's necessarily that civic-minded. If it means she can get home, chances are she'll go for it on her own without thinking to offer the chance to anyone outside her own scope. Whoops. ]

Hey, we've got spaceships where I'm from. This is all a bit beyond me, but you know, in the "we have no practical reason to ever learn this" kind of way.

I doubt it will happen, myself, but... we're all working for one cause. Granted, I'm sure there's someone out there that wants the ruby for something else, but I'm not going to worry about that right now.

[A pause.] Spaceships? Like "manned shuttle missions to the moon" spaceships, or "let's take a trip to Mars for the week" spaceships?

Except that's probably the thing you should be worrying about first and foremost. Anyone else with the same goal as you can be spoken with later, but if someone else has a different idea, it's good to know who to deal with on different terms.

Okay, I don't have to worry about censoring myself, then. I can safely use words like "airplane"... or "America"... or "electricity"... Sometimes I wonder about this place. The people brought here are from such different places, and even different times...

Yeah, I already got that vibe just from walking around for a while. I'd say we time traveled, but I doubt this is even Earth we're on right now. [ Not as they both seem to know it, anyway. ] Man... I'm going to miss electricity.

No, this doesn't seem like the place I came from. Something's... not right. These journals are really a good convincing factor, but there are a few other things. I'm not as worried about electricity - the only thing I'll miss is my cell phone, and the journal takes care of that pretty well - but there are other things. Running water, for one. My hair is going to be a mess after weeks at sea all the time.

If it helps, I don't think anyone's going to comment on dirty, messy hair on a ship like that. Vacation cruises, they ain't. Maybe that's why the always wore bandannas and hats and all that?
