007. voice/action for the katabami
I'm getting sick of staring at endless expanses of water day in and day out. Lake water, ocean water, it does not end.
And those bubbles.
If the sky should dare to rain, my mood will grow dark as the grimmest of storm clouds.
[If there's one thing this journal is good for, it's complaining into. His patience for water itself seems to have run dry.
Even if Mitsunari's accustomed to being at sea by now (he'd better be, having been here for over a year), he's no sailor at heart. The islands usually provide enough of a change of scenery that he can tolerate days at sea, but the Katabami's last stop, Mirror Island, was pretty much a giant lake. That he fell into. The magic bubbles from the beginning of the month were involved. This has probably contributed to his current feelings.]
...When will it be that it is my lord's silhouette I see upon the horizon?
I grow impatient.
[And homesick, perhaps, if you can be homesick for a world you only wished you lived in.]

[voice]
So hit an island. There's lots of 'em, you know.
...no arguments on the damn bubbles, though.
[voice]
[But he's not captain and doesn't know how to steer a ship, besides. They'd only end up wrecking with him at the helm.]
[voice]
[voice]
[Every once in a while Mitsunari remembers that there was a time he'd have been mortally offended by the suggestion he'd end up a part of Motochika's pirate crew someday.]
[voice]
Nah, I kid, I like Motochika. You must be one of those guys that I saw lurking about the ship but never talked to. Even so, sounds like he's been on a hell of a tear lately.
[voice]
Hmph. What with trading Ragna for a tuna fish...? I would not have minded if he'd never returned.
[Not friendly at all.]
[voice]
[voice]
[voice]
[he doesn't mean to be amused...but he totally is]
Sounds kinda like our captain, honestly, but at least Luffy's never traded anyone for fish.
[voice]
[Actually, that's not true. He's obviously seen his entries in the journal and they've even spoken in person. Mitsunari's just really bad at remembering people that he doesn't have a grudge against, doesn't see every single day, or both.]
[voice]
[voice]
[What is this "paying attention to the world around you" nonsense.]
[voice]
[and a tentative alliance but eh, those happen all the time]
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Well, that clarifies everything.]
[Voice]
Why? I'm glad to be rid of my master.
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Voice]
He sets a grand example all should aspire to emulate, even if it is impossible to truly reach his level. And graciously he took me in, bestowing me with the chance to live a life that would amount to something. Everything I do is in the name of Lord Hideyoshi.
[He walks on water as far as Mitsunari is concerned.
"Created" strikes Mitsunari as an odd word to use. The only interpretation that makes sense to him is that this stranger is speaking of his father or something.]
My lord has never fostered hatred in the hearts of his subordinates. Those who have turned against him had their sick hearts poisoned with traitorous thoughts from the very beginning.
For what reason do you despise this master of yours?
[Voice]
He doesn't really care about anything except his stupid 'Chi-Blade' and me making it for him.
[And lots of other reasons, but none he's really willing to share]
[Voice]
[Naturally, this is what catches his attention.
Sharply:]
By what possible means?
[Voice]
He succeeded, and I know he sought to posses a total of twelve others at once. I do not know if accomplished that.
[Voice]
You okay man?
[Voice]
[It might actually kill him to go an entire day without being melodramatic about something.]
[Voice]
But, jeez, you're... a little over dramatic. I'd offer you a drink if I were there.
[Voice]
[The last time he went anywhere near alcohol he spent the entirety of the next day with a miserable hangover. At the same time he discovered he was in the possession of a brand new marriage license with his signature on it. Sorting out what exactly had lead to that the night before was a headache in and of itself...]
You don't have the slightest inkling how I feel. Don't you dare presume otherwise.
[Voice]
But I'm a nice guy, so I'll tell the secret to not getting hangovers; a glass of water after every drink and eating something while you drink.
[Voice]
[He's not familiar with this phrase, but he gets the message. And because he's crabby he doesn't want to hear any advice, figuring it's meant to be patronizing.]
Go ahead and dig yourself deeper into this hole you've dug.
[Voice]
Really? You're the one digging the hole with your superiorty complex here.
[And he's done talking to this bozo]
action;
Mitsunari. [She greets, with a slight smile.] Will you tell me a little of your homeland?
action;
[He might just say "no" if it were someone else asking, but he can spare the effort of answering Xun Yu.
There are two distinct versions of his homeland that come to mind. The one where Hideyoshi is alive, and the one where he is not.]
...It is a land torn apart by endless conflict. Filled with people who reject the salvation Lord Hideyoshi would have brought them; fools who now side with Ieyasu.
...It wasn't the same, not after Lord Hideyoshi was killed. His death left an indelible scar on that land. On me. The country -- the world changed that day.
