9th rise of the phoenix ஜ Voice

[The first thing that Ikki does upon finding himself on Isla Empieza is to throw up. It may be due the feeling of being pulled back and forth through a diminute hole at the speed of light, or it may be due the way his brain is drained and then explodes with memories. It takes him a bit to clear his mind, to get a hold of his surroundings, the memories that had been taken and then returned.

As he recovers, he casts a glance around if only to confirm that this isn't his home. He was sent back only to be returned to this world right away. And that's not the worst part of it. The worst part is that he doesn't know how long has it been here. He remembers from others that months here could have been just a few hours for them back in their worlds, and he wouldn't put it past Davy Jones and Chronos to make it be centuries here while it was just a second for him.

The second thing that Ikki does upon returning is to open his journal and snarl at it.]

How fucking long has it been?!

[Even if that's the first thing that he asks, it's not really what he cares for the most.]

Are the Spades still active? [Do people even know them yet? If they vanished and enough time passed it's possible people wouldn't have heard of them.]

Is Selphie Tilmitt still here?!

Ummm, I don't know! Am I saying the wrong thing? [He very well could be.]

I've been sleeping a little.

Beats me, we will have to find someone versed on the art of being taken and returned from worlds and ask them. Do you know anyone?

[It's hard to know if he's being serious or just joking. He himself isn't sure.]

So you haven't been eating.

[Why isn't he surprised?]

[He gets a noise that sounds suspiciously like a stifled giggle at that.]

No one, sorry.

[He pauses a moment.]

I haven't been but it's okay. I don't feel like it.

Do you want to be weak if you get attacked?

[Honest question.]

No, but I won't be. I'm not weak.

[Listless and horribly useless maybe, but not weak.]

Tell that to your body when it starts to run out of energy due not having eating properly. At the very least make sure to eat once a week, else, weak or not you won't be of much use if you get attacked.

[In his own experience, at least.]

I slept for a month before without eating and nothing bad happened. I just woke up and started doing missions again.

I don't have to eat, it's just for pretending. Like I'm a person.

Maybe. Or maybe nothing bad happened because you were sleeping and thus not wasting your energy, like now that you're awake.

[He's not going to fight it, though, unless Roxas got back to the Spades he's not going to argue that much. Besides, he himself has gone without eating more than he should.]

Be careful either way.

Maybe. I didn't think of that. Mostly I'm just lying around.

[He sighs a little. Coincidentally, Roxas is currently with the Spades but any talk of coming back has not been mentioned.]

I'll try and be careful I guess. But I'd just disappear into nothing if something happened to me.

Technically you would just return to life sooner or later if something happened to you while you're here. Like it happened the first time. I return to life too even back in my own world, but that isn't a reason to not be careful.

[And you're not "nothing", kid. You have caused too much pain and arguments to be "nothing", but Ikki keeps that to himself.]

I remember. I'll still be careful though Ikki, I promise. I don't want anything to happen to me.

No one here wants anything to happen to you, Roxas.

[Unless Lea convinced someone else, that is.]

I know! I guess you sound worried? [He's guessing, but he thinks it's right.]

Why wouldn't I talk with you? I like talking to you. It's just been awhile. A lot has happened.

Well, I certainly don't sound happy when talking about harm or anything bad happening to you. It's another reason why I don't like Lea being gone, I know how important he is to you.

[There's a humorless chuckle as an answer to Roxas' next question.]

I wonder why... I suppose that I'll never get totally used to the idea that people want anything from me unless there's a fight involved.

[Nor here, nor in his world, despite the many proofs of that not being true.]

Guess it's because I don't feel like I deserve any of it, not even having someone enjoying talking with me.

Nothing too bad happened. I wrecked my room though. Apart from that I didn't get hurt. Well, only inside my chest. That hurts a lot.

[He sighs. It's like heartbreak, only it can't be.]

We can fight if it'll make you feel better, but I don't really feel like it right now. I don't know about what people deserve, but I always liked you Ikki! Except that time you pushed me into the water.

It's okay, wrecking one's room is part of the protocol for when people vanish.

[And if it's not, it should be.]

Being hurt inside your chest is bad enough, though, it's worse than if you were hurt physically. Physical damage can be healed, but the one inside your chest is going to be there forever if experience serves right.

[A sigh.]

That's not the type of fight I'm talking about. I meant fighting against a common enemy or something, like if the Navy was attaking or something worse.

And you were asking for that. [Just not directly or knowingly.] Anyway I would be surprised if you had liked that.

Yeah, but soon I'm gonna have to go back and fix it. I splintered it pretty good, the captain wasn't too happy about that.

I hope not, it's really uncomfortable. It's not like there's anything in there though so it's weird. Whenever I did the thing, touching my chest, Lea would give me a weird look.

[He sounds a bit puzzled at that.]

Well sure if you wanted to come, we could do that too?

I was not! Just you wait Ikki, sometime when you least expect it - SPLASH!

I guess avoiding returning until they give up and fix it themselves isn't an option, right?

[The captain should be glad the whole ship wasn't burned down, though probably other crews aren't as prone to destruction as the Spades can be. Ikki still thinks that it's a matter of time before they sink their own ship.]

Yeah, I remember the talks about what you have and don't have inside there. I don't know if you have forgotten my opinion about it, but either way none of us is in the mood for that argument so I'll skip it.

[Of course Lea would look at the kid weirdly. He wanted Roxas to return to his world to die and vanish forever after all. Anything remotedly human the kid could do, instictively or not, would look weird for him.]

Maybe another day, no need now. I just want to get back to the ship and to Selphie.

You realize that by telling me that, I'll always be expecting it? Not that I mind, Marco is the one that can't stand to get wet.

I don't think they'd go in there, it was mine and Lea's room. Not like the galley or something, although I kinda wrecked that too, by accident, before.

[Oops, bad luck.]

It's okay, some other time maybe. The whole thing confuses me too much anyway.

[Ikki isn't entirely right, but it is true Lea finds it weird whenever Roxas acts like his heart hurts.]

Expect it all you want, but sooner or later, you'll be in the sea!

So what? Last time I checked everyone went to everyone's rooms on the Sun, even when they were vacant, if only to ensure they were clean. Don't they have cleaning duties in your crew?

[Ikki hums in agreement. He knows how confused Roxas is about it after all, which is another reason why he isn't in the mood to go into it now.]

I know, I know... And I still think that it's because you latch too much into what has been told to you instead of deciding on your own. But I know that can be pretty hard to do so, whatever.

Well, as long as I don't have to stay in the sea... You won't make me stay there, will you?

[Except that it wouldn't be a problem for him, but he's not sure if Roxas remembers the time he took him to the sunken ship.]

Yeah, I clean stuff, mopping and stuff. But not in people's rooms since we got our own rooms. When we all shared a room, we cleaned it too.

[Since they are not having this conversation, he lets it drop.]

I won't make you stay there I guess. You can't live in the sea.

So everyone takes care of their own rooms? I don't know if that's careless or a proof of trust.

[If Shun was here Ikki wouldn't let his room go without an inspection, even if he knows well that his brother is the least likely to have a dirty room.]

Yeah, it would be quite uncomfortable, the climate is a bit too humid for my liking. And I think all the food would end being wet.

I guess, I don't really know. All I do is mop stuff and do dishes.

[He's only responsible for the mundane chores.]

Of course it would be wet!

I see... Has Selphie ever visited your ship?

[With the way she is with cleaning duties on the Sun, Ikki can imagine her being quite critical with the cleaning in other ships. Though maybe he overestimates her zealousy.]

Yeah, I don't like wet food very much, so that would be a huge problem. Let's leave living under the sea to fishmen and mermaids and fish in general.

I don't think so, I mostly come here. I never asked her to, but I think people probably wouldn't because they don't want to see Lea.

[A pause.]

He's not here anymore though. So she could visit if she wants, except I'm on the Sun right now.

[Ikki can probably hear a smile, because that comment makes him want to laugh.]

Yeah, eating wet food would be weird. Except soup, soup is wet and I like it.
