[At first it's just muttering]

"Get ye on a crew." Hmph. "Get ye on a crew."

[The voice gets louder.]

I'll do nothing of the sort! If I'm to sail these seas, it won't be as someone else's crewman! I'll be captain of my own ship and no less! Do you hear that?!

[He's hit his stride now and his voice is booming out of the pages of the journal.]

I am Motochika Chōsokabe, Sea Devil of the West, Conqueror of Shikoku, and the best damn pirate there is! I extend an invitation to those with nerves of steel and a thirst for treasure to join up under my flag to make this strange ocean ours! Whether I need to find a ship of my own or commandeer one already afloat, know that I will be captain. Who out there is man enough to join my crew?

[[ooc: So if you want to do action instead...there's a big guy with an eyepatch making grand speeches to his journal somewhere near the fountain.]]

[Motochika's good mood kind of dissipates for a moment. He may be a fearless sailor, a brilliant engineer, and a proud leader of men, but the one thing he's never succeeded in dealing with is teenage girls and their silliness and their attitude and their bossiness and...well, the list goes on.]

And what do you have to offer, lass? I expect all of my crew to pull their own weight and if you can, then that's fine by me. If you're expecting a fun little boat trip, you can find someone else to ferry you around.

Well, I have to admit I've never sailed before...

[Lying about that and trying to fake her way through it was certain to get her thrown overboard if this guy actually was a pirate, though.]

But I can act, I can sing, and I can cook!

...you don't happen to like tofu, do you? Or foie gras?

[She sounds like she's being honest, so that's a point in her favor.]

I'll eat it if that's what you're asking. I suppose cooking is a useful enough skill to start with, but don't expect to get by just on that. If you think you can learn a few more tasks to make yourself useful at sea, then I've nothing against taking you along.

[The important thing is she believes she can cook. ~~That's not the important thing~~.]

If I'm going to be stuck here, I'm definitely going to learn all about sailing! And who better to learn it from than a real pirate, right?

[And that builds his ego right back up!]

Right you are, lass! Enthusiasm like that will serve you well. What's your name, then? I know you've heard mine, but I don't believe you told me yours.

[She bows politely and gives her best pop idol smile.]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain Chosokabe!

The pleasure's all mine, lass. [Not necessarily true, but she's being polite (thank the heavens!), so he'll follow suit. Polite, respectful, and suitably impressed. That's how all young people should be.]

Now we just need to find a ship to sail and someone besides myself who knows how to sail it!

Right!

[She thinks for a moment.]

Well...I also have some experience advertising, if you think I could help with that.

That would be a great help! The sooner we can find a crew, the sooner we can set sail! See if you can scare up anyone who actually knows how to sail a ship. [Motochika crosses his arms and thinks for a bit, trying to work out what else he's going to need. It's a long list, but it's probably better to start small.] Someone who can navigate would be a help, as would someone who can handle weaponry.

[Save the automata building for later.]

Right! If I meet any professional sailors or fighters, I'll send them right your way, Captain.

Excellent! And I'll go have a look as well and see what I can scare up.
