Voice 2.0

So I wanted to do some like, 'research'- I don't come from a place with all this magic and whatever, so maybe somebody can help me out. I asked around and heard there's some places you can go that have like, healing springs? and things like that? but one of them at least turns you into a chick, and that's not really what I'm looking for, so...

I know at least that there's people here who can cure injuries and things like that, if you get hurt during a fight or whatever, but what if someone has an actual... y'know, disease? Is there anybody here who knows how to fix that? Or has anybody been someplace here that might have some kind of magic to do something about it?

Hit me up. I want to know where to go next.

Oh, no, trust me- you helped a lot. If there's ever anything I can do for you, you just let me know, okay? I owe you one or two.

[On her end, Robin smiles.]

I'll hold you to it. What crew do you sail with?

Blue Sky pirates. The Crystal Ship. You?

[So does Jesse. Innocently? Of course!]

The Strawhats. Your crew is newly formed, then?

Yup, pretty new. There's just the three of us- but me and my partner, we've worked together for like, a year and a half, so we know each other real well. Captain, first mate, navigator. Not bad for a starting crew, huh?

That does sound like an excellent start. Do any of you know how to sail?

Well, yeah, our navigator does. That's why he's our navigator. [Laughs] He's a funny guy, but he seems like a good one. I'm watching him, but it doesn't seem like something you can pick up real fast!

Ask him to teach you the ropes. You never know when a crewmate will be swept overboard and eaten by a kraken.

Eh... eheh. Kraken? As in release the?

Good advice. I'll do that. Hopefully he won't like, think I'm trying to maroon him or something.

Mm, they're a bit trickier to deal with than a normal seaking, given their extra tentacles and boneless physiology. But it's not impossible to overcome them, and they make a delicious barbecue if you've got a good cook.

You can eat them?!

I have got a lot to learn about this place...

[Robin giggles.]

Most do. But since you're a chemist I'm sure you'll learn quickly enough.

Or die.

Lucky for us Davy Jones doesn't much appreciate outsiders wandering around in his locker. There's room to make a few mistakes, if you're willing to face the possibility that this time won't work like the others.

I heard... something about losing abilities, right? That doesn't sound too much like a walk in the park. You know anything about that?

I've not been made aware of anything, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Frankly, I would find such information a comfort.

Well, it is nice knowing you get more than one chance at things. Some of us need that, y'know? [Laughs]

Just the idea of losing the ability to do something you've always been able to do... it's a little scary.

If there were no consequence to death, people would stop struggling to live. Which is the greater tragedy in that case, I wonder?

[Her tone indicates she doesn't expect an answer.]

You'll keep us advised on the state of your friend, yes?

Yeah, I definitely will. Thanks for all your help, Robin. And your concern, too. Means a lot to me. And it would to him, too- not that he'd admit it.

[Robin bites her tongue. She's done well, it seems. It wouldn't do to speak her mind in this instance and shatter the illusion. He's indebted to her now, of his own free will and at little cost to herself. Perhaps one day he'll prove useful.]
