[The words come over the journal very softly, almost purred.

It's late at night, and Alex is perched in the fighting-top with her journal.

There's no hope for sleep, and there's a hunger in the pit of her stomach. It's been growing since she got back in her body, and sheep's blood hasn't soothed it. She's bled them more often than she usually does, careful not to do permanent harm, but it hasn't helped.]

I feel like I could recite the whole book if I tried.

Anything that uses sex appeal to lure people to their deaths is going to be romanticized. Look at the fascination with black widows -- spiders and the women called after them.

Vampires are the same way. There's something really sexy about something that looks human but isn't and will kill you because you got too close. Ultimate forbidden fruit.

There'd be crappy vampire novels with or without Stoker.
