[after a while of sailing, dancing around the topic at hand, trying to pry what they both knew into the light while avoiding it, Thatch is tired. Tired enough to take a break from it for a day and just enjoy the wind and surf and company. Tired enough to sleep fairly early and through most of the night--

And then a nightmare grips him. Something so harsh and horrible he can't wake. His stomach clenches and in the dream he claws at water, trying to get to the surface but the nightmare takes him down, down into the black. He can see the shadowy figure of Pops but it is not Pops but a headstone that looks like him and above he sees the wavering figures through the water of Ace and Marco, back to back, walking away from each other and the stone cracks with water.

Stop! Thatch cries but his lungs fill with water and his head thrashes against the pillow]

[Marco is a very light sleeper so he can feel Thatch freaking out and it wakes him up. He does his best to wake up Thatch with feathers and headbutts, a little too panicky to remember to switch back to human yet.]
