[Audio] ALL THE DRAMATICS! A cry for anarchy! This is war!

Pirates of the world, RISE UP I say!

This world claims we do not belong here! The people of this world say we have no home, no place on these seas, in this world! I disagree! [Oh lord, Marco's going full steam here.] My world had no use for monsters like us either! My world made it a sin and a crime for some of us to even be born. Well, to hell with that, say I! ARE WE PIRATES OR ARE WE COWARDS?!

I FOR ONE, BEAR THE FLAG OF MY FATHER AND BROTHERS! LET US TAKE OVER THESE SEAS, AND CLAIM OUR PLACE IN A WORLD ONCE AND FOR ALL! LET US SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE WILL NOT BE DENIED OR IGNORED!

[She hops down, drifting on clouds of steam under her feet to land in the boat and take the bottle.]

[Ugh.]

[That shouldn't be a complicated question.]

Remember how phoenixes you know are extremely aggressive, eh?

Between Ikki and Leanne and Naesala and my brothers, I'm trying to figure out who I am, and what it all means.

[He holds up a hand with an amused grin.]

I know. That's incredibly human and universal even, eh?

But it's even more complicated. Or maybe I'm making it too complicated.

[He grabs a seat and relaxes, drinking from his own bottle.] Before I got here, my Pops was dying, and I went to that war to rescue Ace, aye? And when I go back, it's to a war the size of the whole world.

[A small gulp, because he still doesn't know how to put it all together, much less how to present it.] I don't want to go back to that war, because there is no winning, it's just a matter of surviving. But here...

[He rubs the bridge between his eyes.] It seems lately I live for war. And that's what my name means, eh? God of War and Destruction. I'm trying to use it to protect my family, but the more I hear that challenged, the more I become certain that all I want to do is kick my enemies in their faces and blaze a swath of destruction several ships wide.

Everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't embrace it so much. Thatch doesn't want me embracing the darkness, Lea said disrupting this world would cause it to fall to darkness, and my world already is. [His eyes light up, blue flames as fierce as they ever get.] I've never had a problem with being a monster, or a bad guy, and I know what I hate, who I hate, and why. But I know all this anger that needs a release could have a backlash.

And I don't care. No, I'm looking forward to it. I thirst to prove that nothing this world's navy sends at me can stop me from getting back up and breaking them.

[He glances away and leans his forehead into a hand.] But I suppose the consequences are not mine alone to face. [Waves his other hand dismissively.] All the more reason to part with those without the conviction to face it.

[Complicated is right.

At first, Chandra almost writes it off as more rambling. Because Marco does that a lot. But a lot of it reminds her of stuff she's dealt with herself.

Actually, a lot of it has. Before the monastery, and Zendikar, before she'd found Jaya's teachings. The bit about the god of war she doesn't get, but...god of destruction? Well there are a few tribal groups that might consider her such by now.

And a few not so tribal civilizations too.

Even still...]

I don't think it's a good idea to embrace pure darkness. Destroying and hurting just for the sake of destroying and hurting is not the right path. I'm really not one to judge someone for wanting to blow things up and burn them...but there's a point where you can't just let the fire take total control.

Destroying the enemy is one thing. Making sport of them is one thing. But taking the fight to their families? Or destroying innocents just because you can? That makes you worse than a monster.

[She pulls the cork out of the bottle with her teeth, spitting it out into her hand.]

Letting your anger out? That's good. My mentor taught me how to guide mine. That's what you've gotta do. Thatch is right. I don't know Lea, and frankly I think he sounds like an idiot if he thinks a little chaos is bad for the world. The military here is a bunch of bastards, Heiromancers of the worst kind. They need to be taught a lesson. Aggression's fine there. Everyone needs a release, and you may as well turn it loose on assholes like that. But you've gotta have limits.

If we do go to war? Like, real war? I'll help. You knew that already. But I'm not hurting people who aren't connected to the enemy. I'd expect the same from you. And if that means I have to beat Jaya's teachings into you, I will.

[She takes a swig.]

And believe me, I'm looking forward to blowing them all to hell too.

You know I'd never take it to their families.

My Pops taught me better than that.

I don't cause pain for the sake of it, or even the pleasure of it.

But I do enjoy seeing a good fight. I know my father would have wanted me to be able to embrace peace better, like on Leanne's island.

But I'm not capable of it. I need to fight, and to feel my enemies throats under my feet.

I suppose that just means I'm walking the line of twilight again.

[Still, he feels better about it and clicks his bottle against hers.]

Cheers to blowing them to hell, eh.

[She clinks hers back and gulps down some of the drink.]

And y'know, I'm gonna see if Margie has any of Jaya's books. You might be able to get some use out of them. Find a way to fight without walking that razor's edge.

Jaya?

[A head tilt, because that's the name of an island in his world.]

I know how to control my temper, Chandra. I haven't made much progress with Ace, but if you could have seen him three years ago, you'd understand how far I had to come.

Jaya Ballard. The most powerful Pyromancer who ever lived.

[And unbeknownst to Chandra, the origin of her Spark.]

And y'know, I'm not saying you don't know how to a point. But you didn't know me five years ago. I'd walk into a city and leave a pile of ash.

Jaya's teachings helped me with that. You may not need them as much as I did, but you can be damn sure they'll help.

Perhaps.

[Looks out at the sea.] Right now leaving a place a pile of ash has its appeal.

[She takes a stab in the dark.]

Because of this Lea thing?

[His eyes blaze again.] Because I had lost hope of ever seeing Thatch and Ace again for centuries.

Why should I give that up for anything or anyone?!

I'm sure as hell not going to do it for strangers who've never met them, never heard of them, and sure as hell wouldn't thank them for their god damn 'sacrifice.'

[He's clearly getting riled up.]

I'll do what I want and if anyone wants to stop me they'd better bring a war, because that is what it fucking takes!

[She looks at him with eyes ablaze.]

Nobody's going to do that. When I find a way out, you asshats are all coming with me, you know. I've never had friends before, at least ones that didn't try and kill me first, so guess what? I'm not letting you go.

[Nods.]

[And leans on his hands, folding his arms.]

Take Roxas too.

He has nowhere else to go.

And I thought Lea at least was like me as far as protecting them no matter what, but he's willing to let Roxas go back to becoming nothingness again...

[He gets up, all the rage returned in just a fraction of a second, and damn it there's nothing to break here!]

[So he switches into phoenix again and lets out another phoenix scream, this one of just rage.]

[Unphased, Chandra looks at the angry bird and shakes her head.]

Then if he's going, that's for the best. I don't wanna be around someone who's abandon a companion to that.

And yeah, Roxas can come too. He's a sweet kid.

[A deep breath, and Marco flexes his talons a few times before gently tucking them away and rolling around on his back on the deck, growling to himself in various bird chirps.]

[THEN JUST AS IF NOTHING AT ALL JUST HAPPENED:]

[Gets up, goes back to his seat, and switches to human, carrying on the conversation, as if he didn't just randomly have a moment there.]

And yet Roxas will probably go with him because he loves Axel, the person Lea used to be before he got a heart. No wonder Thatch said he wants to be heartless. Stupid.... [He doesn't even snarl or growl, just quietly keeps calming down.] Not everyone is like that.

[Marco, you make Chandra feel normal.]

That's his choice, then. Anyone that wants to ride the Nalaar express is more than welcome to come along.

Hell, we can probably turn the Sun into a right and proper Skyship with the jewel.

Isn't this the part where you then point out that this would of course deprive the poor poor world here of a sun they oh so desperately need and shit?

I mean, I guess I could in theory just turn the plane into a mana battery and take the whole thing with us. But I'm no good at making powerstones. May as well just use our wish to make it happen.

[Just laughs.] I'll leave it to you to figure out.

Probably. Once I figure it out myself.

Either way, we're not staying here forever. Fuck that.

I don't see what's wrong with making this world our own.

It's just one world. I'd rather have an infinite number of them.
