[ It would be a lie to imply that Bolin sounds completely calm and in control when he initially gets the journal network up and running. He's had time to adjust to the circumstances of arrival, of course, and to do a cursory looking-through of... whatever weird thing it is that these journals have going on, exactly. He couldn't say he understands everything about this place entirely, but there's a poem fountain thing happening, people have mentioned a broken magical gem, he's got a little money to get by on, and everyone who hasn't snubbed him outright has encouraged him to "take to the sea" at his earliest opportunity. So that's... been a thing?

Suffice it to say, Bolin could have all the information in the world and he would still be failing to sound totally chill. What greets the network in that stead is a token attempt at throat-clearing, followed by a tone of voice that is about as forcibly interested and cheerful as he can scrape together. Nobody said it was easy, Bo. ]

Okay, wow, this is some island you guys have got here. Really. I mean, it is just-- so great. And what a welcoming atmosphere, am I right? Or... well, at least a few people were pretty welcoming with the "get a boat, find the magic thing, put it together and go home" talk. Loving that fountain, too! It's, uh. Well, it is a fountain. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Even when it is broken. [ Here, have a quick fake laugh. Something about attempting a joke, however non-entertaining it is, serves to center him a little between one sentence and the next. It's just talking to people, after all. If there's anything he's good at, it's talking. ]

Sooo... hey. I'm Bolin. Pro-bender, mover star, kind of a presidential hero. I got here yesterday. And, you know, before the welcoming atmosphere came into play, I was a little confused because of how I woke up next to a fountain with a bag of money and had no idea what was happening. Pretty unusual.

But all-around, so far, it's still great to meet everyone who is apparently in or able to hear what I say to this magical book. Hi, how are ya? [ No, really. ] I'm pretty sure I'm just down to looking for a crew now. I mean, I don't know if I'm supposed to ask to sail around with someone who already has a ship or I have to get a ship and find some people who know how to sail to sail around with me? If you could use an earthbender either way, then I'm your go-to guy! I can move some big rocks, raise some walls, do a little fighting. Or hey, I can do heavy lifting or digging or... scrubbing? Whatever it is that a guy on a pirate ship who has no idea how to sail should. Be doing. I've got experience with everything but the actual ship operation.

All I know right now is I can't exactly make a living in this town because nobody will let me work for them. Which is ridiculous, by the way, because I'm super valuable as a worker. Did I mention the presidential hero thing? [ Let it sit for three seconds for emphasis, and... ] Yeah. Saved him from evil waterbenders. True story. And I also know that I don't wanna hang around on this island forever anyway, even if it is- haha, really... really charming. [ He kind of hates it. ] Kinda got a home to get back to. Whenever that's gonna be possible. A home with a lot less rain. I mean, mud, right? It's so hard to work with!

So what's the situation out there, I guess? I've got some new life plans to put in action. Sailors to find, seas to travel, all that... good stuff. Oh, and I'll totally work for food! Or a bed. Both would be- y'know, awesome. We can negotiate, that's cool. I'm just ready to go. [ Where people will talk to him, and where he guesses mystical shards will eventually be found so he can be not here. Then basically right on cue, something near the journal chitters, which prompts a hasty last moment addition. ] Aaaas long as you're animal-friendly!

[ The lesson today is to never allow Bolin access to a communication tool that lets him talk without being interrupted while he is nervous. I'm so sorry. ]

Yeah, I heard! [ See that, he answered anyway, like a professional. ] And, uh, I picked up some information here and there. Mostly out in the "there". Like I know that Davy Jones is an evil pirate zombie who shouldn't get his magical stone back, probably. And that the Navy hates us... oh, and a lot of people have no idea what bending or movers are, which was kind of a big second problem when I thought I had to get a job or something. It's just not an actor's world. But at least the food's not bad.

[She is so proud of you, Bolin. Well he's got most of it at least]

And the shards? [A beat] You probably already know, but we have to collect all of them in order to go home, which is why we join crews to search for them. And I'm with you on the last part, I haven't run into a whole lot of people here who even know what a car is.

That's one way of looking at it. [Strange. Very very strange] Do you know about the Naviraimant yet? There's a shop called the Backwater Brig on the island you're on, it should let you transport to any ship you want.

[She figures Mako or Korra already told him that too, but you know...There's a thoughtful pause from her]

Don't ask how it works. I don't even know.

Hey, I'm okay with that. Even if you knew, I can't promise I'd get the explanation, anyway. It's either mysterious magic or super advanced technology. Probably. [ M...aybe. Whatever, he's got the good word from three of the people he trusts more than anything. ] As long as you guys all agree it'll get me where I need to be, I think I can work with that.

[ And never learn more about it ever. Sounds great! Plus if it makes him throw up, it'll only be onto Mako, who has lived that reality before. So no big deal. ]

Someone mentioned magic and I'm not sure most people here know a lot about technology to begin with. [She's already run into a lot of people here who know how to use actual magic anyway, so yeah] You have our word, it already worked for Mako.

[Which would be a good idea. Asami could sit here all day and try to come up with a logical explanation on how the thing worked, but it probably wouldn't get her anywhere...Oh. Well. She'll have a bucket ready for him just in case]

Good enough for me. Once you've done creepy, end-of-the-world spirit portals, everything else sort of looks like a piece of cake.

[ His hero. ]

[Oh yeah, she didn't get to go]

Yeah. It's...something you'll get use to eventually.

[Somehow, she's reaching that point]

[ Why would they have the whole Krew do the same thing together at the same time, that's madness... ]

... Well, that's a relief! [ Bolin 'At Least You Unlocked Your Airbending' Last-Name-less, ladies and gentlemen. ] I mean, you're way more adaptable than I am, but I like to think I can hope for the best here. Can you imagine if you had to keep doing this stuff but you never got used to it, anyway?

[ Nah, man. Nah. It's way better to keep your hopes up. ]

[Asami just shakes her head slightly at the journal, what are her friends] That...no I don't think I can imagine that. But I should probably warn you that we've already had a few really strange things happen. They usually affect most of the crew, so I'd be on my toes if I were you.

[Keeping your hopes up is better than not at least]

No need to worry there, Asami. I used to stay on my toes for a living. [ This journal stuff's nothing on face to face chats, wow. He just wasted a perfectly good wink. ] And I have Pabu fully trained to walk on his.

All right, you're right about that. Pro-bending helped a lot with that, huh? [And the whole surviving on the streets thing, but there's no reason to bring that up. And yes, Asami preferred face-to-face herself, because she's smiling and it can't be seen] Hopefully you've been keeping him out of trouble.

Well, we ran into some minor food-stealing problems before I got us lunch, but I smoothed that over pretty fast. [ Poor little guy, acting out. ] People were surprisingly okay with it.
