[the flip of a page brings sound first, a grunt and a slight ting of bells]

...there, 'course. Now where's the damn writing thing...?

[it cuts off and the rest comes in jagged handwriting, as the journal translates his Chinese script]

word of advice. don't get captured. sure, you'd say it's better than dying, but I'd beg to differ. it ain't fun. it's not an easy way out. puts your crew at risk, more than if you die. and I don't know about half of you, but I ain't lettin' some Navy ass gloat about stretching my neck on the gallows. Hell no. Never give 'em the satisfaction.

I ain't gonna ask for a recap of the last week, I can figure it out for myself. But I saw mention of a couple names of Oda's guys who I might wanna talk to. didn't know they'd be here...

Given that, yes, it would be enough to condemn you. How did you manage to escape?

the guys I hooked up with might not have been able to beat that guy in a naval battle, but they sure do know how to pull off a stealth mission in a prison.

Very fortunate for you that turned out to be the case. Do you know what the name of the Naval Commander you faced was?

Didn't catch his name, his men just called him captain, but if I had to give him a name I'd have called him crazy-face. because that's how he looked.

The Navy does have a flare for the ridiculous. I would not be surprised at all to discover that was his true name.

Where did you run into this man's fleet? It might be best to warn those you can that this man is in the area.

actually, he's probably moved on from those coordinates. their fleet ambushed us there - so be warned that the Navy knows how to put a good ambush to use. has a lot of little ships in his fleet, I think they stock the flagship with weapons. cannons, y'know.

I'm sure he has. It would have been foolish to remain in the exact same location, but they might still be nearby. Depending on how large the fleet he commands is and wind conditions, they could either have moved out quickly or been forced to a slower pace.

I don't suppose you overheard anything of their future plans?

[A long shot he knows, but some times people get sloppy when they think they have won. ]

nah, short of dropping me off at the prison and making an example outta me, they didn't say anything else in earshot.

I've been around the battlefield, I know what to listen for. no luck this time.

One last thing if you will and then I will allow you to get some rest. You must be in need of it after all this.

Were those of the Navy you encountered using any kind of restraint that seemed to sap your strength or abilities?

it's fine, I rested enough sitting on my ass in that cell.

uh, not that I could tell? don't know what abilities you mean.

Abilities beyond those normal people are capible of, some call it magic.

The Navy has been working on ways to suppress and contain these traits.

ohhh yeah no I don't have any ability like that. so if they used something that would sap it, I probably wouldn't know.

From what I have heard it does not seem to be in wide use yet. They may not have had anything like it in their fleet.

good to know.

fellow pirates gotta share information, eh? keeps everybody safe, or well, safe enough. what happens when they go charging into a pack of enemies all on their own is on their own heads after that.
