[voice/written] action for Hazmats
[the flip of a page brings sound first, a grunt and a slight ting of bells]
...there, 'course. Now where's the damn writing thing...?
[it cuts off and the rest comes in jagged handwriting, as the journal translates his Chinese script]
word of advice. don't get captured. sure, you'd say it's better than dying, but I'd beg to differ. it ain't fun. it's not an easy way out. puts your crew at risk, more than if you die. and I don't know about half of you, but I ain't lettin' some Navy ass gloat about stretching my neck on the gallows. Hell no. Never give 'em the satisfaction.
I ain't gonna ask for a recap of the last week, I can figure it out for myself. But I saw mention of a couple names of Oda's guys who I might wanna talk to. didn't know they'd be here...

[for anyone on the Booyakasha, he's sitting out on the forecastle, writing and contemplating the open ocean. He's got a lot to think about. He's grateful for the rescue, though.]

not that I'm some kind of weakling and can't handle a spot of torture but I still don't wish it on anyone.
[voice]
You poor soul! What sort of unspeakable tortures did they mete on you? Oh, that the Navy would be so heartless . . . to think that they're supposed to be protecting those of us who need protection!
[A gusty sigh.]
You must be strong and brave.
[voice]
Well, yanno, a pirate has to be strong to make it in any world. They made sure to beat the hell out of me just to take me down, I wasn't gonna give up unless they killed me. But, they didn't, they just hauled me off and starved me for a few days, bragged about how they were gonna hang me. Just for starters.
[voice]
[If only you could see her doe-eyed expression of sympathy!]
How terrible!
How did you escape?
[voice]
Gotta give the crew I've been hangin' out with the credit, there. They managed a stealth mission. Good kids - ninjas, apparently.

I mean, we haven't been hooked up very long but still. Kill your enemies, protect your allies - that's how I live. I protect them, they protect me.
[to say nothing of friendship, of course...]
[voice]
I'd never known such things before.
[Friendship? What was that?]
You truly are enlightening, good sir. Your wisdom knows no bounds. Alliances . . . to be able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with . . . a friend . . .
These are things I have never experienced!
[voice]
Really? You're not pullin' my leg...
[voice]
[voice]
[voice]
Would you be my friend?
[voice]
[voice]
What is your name?

[She gasped, as if scandalized by her own words.]
[voice]
Nah, nah...Gan Ning's fine, it's my full name. If I wanted you to be informal I'd give you my style name.
