[audio - written] Selphie's Sad Times

*The journal starts off first with a breath, like someone is about to say something really important, but difficult to say. But instead of words, there's just a soft, slow sigh. Talking about this really isn't going to be easy, so she promptly decides to write things down instead. She writes very carefully, not committing to putting the words down until she's got them straight in her head, which is unusual for Selphie*

 

My whole life, I've never known my parents. They died when I was very young, it seemed, and recently I've gained back some memories of the orphanage I used to live in. I didn't know what they looked like, what they did, what kind of people they were. In a way, I think I accepted that. I was never adopted, and I was sent to live at a military school. That, for me, was always that. Of course I wondered. Of course I imagined they'd come back. But what I never imagined, was meeting someone here who does have memories of my parents.

These past couple of months, it's like my whole world has been flipped upside down, and I'm not even in my home world. Since the new year, one thing after another, and another. Sometimes it's just hard to know what to think anymore. It's not just this place, but the people too. I've always been a think-on-your-feet, live-in-the-moment type girl, but until recently, I don't think I ever really appreciated just how quickly everything can completely change, swept from beneath your feet, dumped on you from a great height.

Now that I've written this much, I'm not really sure what it is I wanted to say. I suppose, just that, even though this world isn't home, there's no underestimating what might happen, and how the people we meet here might affect us.

Just keep happy, everyone.

Just keep doing the things that make you smile.

*Then the journal entry finishes. There's not the usual signing of her name, not the usual message of love and peace, nor a scribbled love heart, or a smiley face. But she does go back to underline that last line, if even for her own sake than anyone else's*

Yeah, but I really think it depends on where you drive too.

[Like not in a city, because hitting another diplomat on a different island isn't something she wants to do again. Her expressions becomes a little bit more mild now]

Anything specific on your mind?

Hmm, there is that too! No point on going on an awesome trip if you're only gonna end up in a dump!

*She smiles lightly at that, then shakes her head at the question*

Not so much. Just everything all jumbled all at once.

It's times like this I wish we had a speedboat.

[Asami laughs a little, but stops at the last part]

Yeah, I got know that feeling.

[booyaka_boom]

A speedboat! Wow! We need one of those! We should ask Ace if we can get one for the ship!

*Selphie shares an understanding smile with Asami and nods*

Everything okay with you?

If they have something like that around here that is. [Then again there was that steampunk island...] Who says we have to ask?

[beckoning her head, she crosses her arms]

I...think I'm fine now. But admittedly it hasn't been the best couple of weeks.

They must do! They seem to have all sorts of other random weird stuff!

*Selphie looks at Asami carefully, and it hits her that with all that she's been going through lately, she hasn't been giving much time to anyone else, and she really hates that*

Hmm? What's been going on?

If that's the case, I think we'll find something eventually.

[She has to pause at that, before giving a small shrug]

Besides the thing with the witch, there...was some trouble at Deesuko Ballia. But it's pretty much over now[Sort of...] so it's really not much of a worry now.

*Selphie moves out of the way of the door and motions inside her room to a couple of chairs in there*

Some trouble? What kind of trouble?

*She frowns at that, her own memories of that island being particularly strange, and not pleasant at all*

Pretty much over, but not completely?

[Asami takes the offer and steps inside, though she doesn't sit down right away]

Let's just say we...I had an accident with the moped. It involved an official.

[In the grand scheme of things it probably wasn't all that bad, considering the Navy was after them anyway. But still, it wasn't her idea of fun either]

An official?

*That makes Selphie frown, and she firmly crosses her hands over her chest*

What kind of official?

A diplomat.

[She frowns at that. This wasn't the first time Asami has hit someone, but this situation was a bit different]

I'm pretty sure we have a bounty on our heads now.

[booyaka_boom]

They didn't hurt you, did they? In any way?

*Selphie frowns hard at this, remembering how the navy had treated her when she'd been captured. Asami was so pretty that there was a high likelihood they'd attempted similar things. She drops her arms to her side and shakes her head*

All I can say is, I hope my bounty's super loads of money, so that everyone knows just how dangerous I am!

Nothing like that. It wouldn't be the first I'd be captured anyway.

[Asami can't help but quirk an eyebrow at that, though it was more in a curious manner. Seems like everyone on this crew was going to end up having a bounty sooner of later whether they wanted to or not]

Did something happen?

[That she wasn't aware of]

*Selphie just shakes her head slowly, then scratches lightly at the back of her neck, smiling a little sheepishly and giving a sigh*

To me? Nah, nothing. Not for...well, a while. I'm okay. So long as you're okay too. I'd beat the crap out of the navy, or anyone, for trying to hurt you.

*And as joking as she might be trying to be, she apparently really means it*

That's a relief.

[Even if Selphie's last sentence is suppose to be more of a joke, Asami still thinks it's sweet. Not that she would have worded it as harshly. She just smiles instead]

I'm not sure how necessary that is, but we're friends. So, I guess you could say the same thing for me?

[booyaka_boom]

Great!

*Selphie smiles brightly, and tilts her head*

Of course, it'll be even better if it doesn't ever come to that!

[She then pauses]

How's your head? Is it feeling more clear now?

*Selphie smiles and gives a simple nod*

Uh huh. I think it's just good to talk to someone, and to think about fun things, like mopeds!

[That gives Asami another idea. With a small laugh, she nods and rubs her chin]

I agree. Hey, have you ever looked inside on before?

[booyaka_boom]

Uh..no, I haven't. Why?

*She tilts her head and blinks at Asami, wondering where this is going*

I have a tool kit. I can show you.

[To some people tha might have sounded strange. But to Asami it was pretty normal]

I think it could help pass the time.

Oh, that sounds cool! I used to have ta fix some things up on the ship back home but...But that was much bigger than a moped, so it's probably pretty different.

*Selphie smiles, apparently another woman who doesn't mind taking a look into mechanics*

[Really, Asami's just glad there's someone else around who knows about that sort of stuff]

I haven't had a chance to really get a good look at a ship engine, but yeah, I'd suspect they'd both be pretty different.

[Of course, she doesn't know that Selphie's probably talking about an airship in this case]

Well, a ship's one will be much bigger for a start, I bet!

*Selphie grins and nods at Asami*

You got a moped on board?

I'd be a little worried if the engine was that small.

[At the question Asami nods back to Selphie]

Yeah, I do. It's actually in my room right now.
