[It's late at night when the journal entry appears.]
Evening.
I suppose I am writing in this thing because I can't sleep. I haven't really figured out what to do about that. Any suggestions would be helpful.
[There's a pause, before he adds more.]
Is anyone else up at this hour? What are you doing with your time?
[Another pause, longer than the last.]
If anyone would like to talk right now, that would be fine.

[Voice]
[Chandra laughs.]that guy was trying to teach me. Slow going, and I'm stiff as a board.
[Voice]
[He blinks a little.]
What are you trying to learn Chandra?
[Voice]

[Voice]
[Voice]
How is it you learned fire in the first place?
[Voice]
And...well, I just sorta...started using it. My people were all fire mages, and I was just a natural. Even if I wasn't a Planeswalker, I'd be a pyromancer.
[Voice]
It's more than fire? That's interesting. Is there some reason you can use magic and other people can't?
[Voice]
[She laughs at the second bit.]
And no. There are people like me...Planeswalkers...who are naturally gifted with magic. And then there are regular mages. Wizards, sorcerers, whatever you want to call them. They're like me but they have to study to even get started. I just have to study to learn outside my natural talents.
[Voice]
[He sighs softly.]
Mind you, I have to acknowledge it might exist.
[Voice]
And, okay, that's the third time I've heard that word. What's a movie?
[Voice]
At home we have a screen called a television. It can be of almost any size and most people have them in their homes. A movie is a story, like a play that's filmed with all kinds of effects. It would be like if someone was watching us sail on this ship. If I filmed it, they could. People can also go to theatres and watch movies on a much larger screen then what can fit into your home.
[Voice]
{She sounds curious, though.]
So, moving pictures? I've seen stuff like that. Enchantments though, nothing...machine created.

[Voice]
[Which of course he now has to explain.]
Video games require an additional piece of equipment, a console of some kind, and then the games were made with animation instead of real people, but it was the same idea, sort of. Except you usually controlled a character, moving them around on the screen.
[He sighs softly again, a little morose as he speaks without really thinking.]
Tohru had a console in his room and we played together often, although sometimes he would play and I would watch, or read.
[Voice]
Are there?
[And she pauses, not sure she knows that name?]
Who's Tohru?
[Voice]
[He has some money lying around after all.]
Ah, well, Tohru was my best friend.
[Voice]
[Uh oh Natsuno...she zeroes in on this one.]
Best friend huh? Tell me about him.
[Voice]
Let me see, he was really friendly. Even when I told him to back off, he was still determined to be my friend. He was older than me, eighteen already and out of school, so he was learning to drive. He was pretty good at repairing broken bike tires, and he always won at video games. He had more time to play them I guess. Him and his siblings, his parents were all just really good people.
[He sounds like he's smiling, just a little bit.]
Even Masao liked him and Masao was terribly annoying. He was friends with Tohru's little brother Tamotsu. I stayed over there a lot because I didn't really get along with my parents. I never have. If it wasn't for Tohru, I would have been able to walk away from Sotoba, most likely.
[Voice]
[Her voice is actually soft, no teasing edge to it this time.]
Sounds like he means a lot to you.
[Voice]
[He stares at the ceiling. These memories, these were the best ones.]
He uh, died. Two months before I came here.
[Voice]
Oh...uh...shit. I'm sorry, Yuuki.
[Voice]
[Most of his stories kind of end that way.]
I wish that was the end of it, but unfortunately he's become the star of many a nightmare.
[Voice]
[She...doesn't want to say it. But she's definitely thinking "Is he like you?"]
