[A couple of marks, clearly used for counting, appear in the corner of one of the journal's pages. A few hours later, more are added. Then later in the afternoon, yet more are added to the tally, along with a bit of audio, though whether intended or not may be an item of debate.]

Three more, that makes ten so far. Seems the Dog was correct, they've become bolder.

[A soft scuffling sound, like one moving to get a better view of something in the distance.]

And more on their heels! [Two more tally marks appear next to the others.] There must be a base nearby...

[And more directly toward the book.]

Perhaps working together, we can triangulate their ports. Others who've seen Navy ships, what is your location, how many were there, and which direction were they sailing? If there are other crews near your area, feel free to discuss your findings with them here as well. As for my crew, we are a few days North of Isla Empieza. The ships seem to be bypassing the island itself, but they are certainly patrolling the surrounding seas. A fair wind and safe sailing to you all.

They've certainly been making a strong showing, lately. I suppose I'll actually have to be cautious.

It was meant to be a statement of fact. Nothing more and nothing less.

How do we know they're not tailing us?

They'd be behind or to the side, not passing in front.

I suppose someone could swim over and ask them. They might even have time to send a message back over the journals before the Navy sunk our ship.

[he looks over his shoulder at her. Funny, Robin.]

If they want to launch a war on pirates, they should just do it already. None of this skulking around pretending like they're hot shit just for having all those ships.

[She passes him a spyglass as she turns to lean back against the rail.]

Many of the ships have had some kind of serial number visible as well. Either aft on the hull or above the cabin. They do seem to be going somewhere in a hurry, don't they?

[why yes thank you he will use it, and peer at the numbers. Sure enough, that one has it on the cabin]

Somewhere. Not toward us. Hm.

It's possible they could be setting up for a blockade of Isla Empieza like they did before, I suppose. Though it seems silly to do so when it didn't work the first time. In any case it's hard to say if they're coming or going. None look in need of repairs, which would imply they are setting out after returning to their base after the war with the native pirates. However, it is possible if the damage were extensive enough they would have had to limp to whatever island was nearest for repairs, with orders to return to base as quickly as possible. Both hypotheses account for the traffic and general direction, but neither are easily disprovable given our current evidence.

[Impressive. He's not surprised she has theories]

I know what the Dog said, but I don't get why people are freaking out. If they're just going to their bases like you say...there's a lot of 'em but it's not an actual threat yet.

[he sounds mildly disappointed at that]

If they're hurrying to regroup, they'll be sailing with smaller crews. It'd be best to see that they never arrive to bolster their numbers...

[he looks back at her, grinning a bit]

I like the way you think.

The only problem, of course, is that we don't want to be caught between all these patrols if things begin to go the wrong way for us. Even if we assume they're sailing with skeleton crews, they've banded together in groups, which causes an issue of firepower. We may land one or two of our own on each of their ships and destroy their soldiers, but by the time that happens they'll have sunk our ship.

Of course, they may be willing to give aid to a couple of stranded civilians, whose ship was recently sunk by pirates and who have been seeking to row themselves back to shore. What do you think?

It's possible. But going to those kind of lengths, the end result better be worth it. You're right, there's no point risking the ship if it's not going to come to anything.

[Robin shrugs, making no guarantees.]

A rowboat isn't much of a risk.

[A quick bloom from Zoro's shoulder jingles his earrings.]

Promise you'll swim me back if they do destroy it?

Wait, I don't remember signing up to play a civilian.

[but, of course, if you need a ship cut in half...]

Then I suppose you'll just have to wait patiently, and move only when the Navy feels ready to do so.

Living free and having fun generally happens much more naturally if one is still living.

How do you pirates bear it? [He mostly means Robin, since she's been running from marines the longest of them and also kind of for bullshit reasons when you think about it since it's not like she did anything big and terrible to become an outlaw or specifically chose the lifestyle before then.]

[Her droll expression softens, and she stares at him for what seems like a long time as she tries to formulate an answer.]

One day at a time.

[She might even smile a little as she looks back out to sea.]
