[Asch has been stuck on this island for one night and he already hates it. It's not even a particularly nasty island, but this town is full of people who don't want anything to do with him-- and he doesn't want anything to do with them, either. Plus, when he asked about people dying, he got a door slammed in his face. Rude.
Having figured out that the journal is capable of both recorded and written communication, he's taking advantage of it while he lingers in the town square.]
Is there no one on this island who knows how to operate a boat? I have enough money to buy a small ship, but hiring crewmen is impossible. These people won't even take gold for it. This is a seaside community; having no one who will steer a boat makes no sense. They're avoidant on purpose.
[He hmphs a bit.]
Finding a company of competent people is going to be harder than I thought.

S-shut up!
[For someone who's supposed to be a child soldier, Anise is pretty low on his list of tolerable people. The replica has poor taste, but whatever. Not important right now. He runs his hand through his bangs, pushing them back reflexively.]
Hmph. I woke up here last night. I've spent all morning looking for someone who can sail a ship. Everyone here is useless.
no subject
[...Deep, deep inside, probably.]
Plenty of people can sail ships! [Oh! That gives her an idea.] Hey, you can join my crew!
[They've worked together before for a common goal, right? This can't be too far-fetched an idea.]
no subject
Until then, though, you're kinda screwed.]
... 'Your' crew.
[Aaaaaaaaand now he's just imagining Anise ordering around a bunch of middle aged men. That's not why he's against it though.]
I'm not interested in traveling with you people unless it's absolutely necessary.
no subject
But don't you want to get home, Asch? [Oh, wait, maybe that's not the best incentive. She has no idea what he's been up to since that battle at the Absorption Gate, but it probably isn't anything happy. Jeez, Asch really needs to learn to relax and unwind!]
no subject
Tch. I never said that!
[He has plenty of reasons to want to go home. One of which being, he's not sure if he's alive or dead there. Wouldn't it be nice to actually defy his original fate?]
I do things my own way. That's all.
no subject
So you're going to try handle a ship on your own? I didn't even know you could do that!
[Anise sounds pretty skeptical. Do you even know how to sail, Asch???]
no subject
No. [He rubs at his temples.] I'm going to make my own crew.
[The 'idiot' is implied.]
no subject
[Her surprise is 100% warranted ok ok]
no subject
I don't have a problem working with people. I have a problem working with you people. Did you forget I had my own troops?
[YOU are the problem. Well, not Anise specifically. The replica. The replica is the problem.]
no subject
[Because, you know, they're all either protags or crazy villains.]
no subject
I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to win... and you should be, too.
no subject
[Or...all the time.]
Win? Win what?
no subject
The jewel. What else? It's the only way we're getting home, unless you know something I don't.
no subject
[...Although she can kind of see his point. It's better if they have control all the pieces, isn't it?]
