Dear magical journal thing that I'm feeling slightly more ambivalent towards as of late even though your pages are continuously filled with useless drivel that I can't be bothered to read,
I recently acquired a broom.
It's not as good as my Nimbus back home, but it'll do.
If anyone on my crew needs me — ha — check the skies.
- Draco Malfoy
P.S. I also purchased some chocolate frogs but one of them seems to have gone missing. Do feel free to alert me if you hear any out of place ribbits on board, but really, they've usually only got one decent jump in them so he can't have gone far.

The brooms use themselves. That, or we have spells. Or house elves. In my home, it's mostly that last thing.
voice
You're used to servants, then.
voice
I'm used to house elves. ...So, yes, I guess. They have them at school, too.
voice
I don't suppose you want for much.
voice
They're not really servants, at least not the ones at school. They work in the kitchen, and I'm fairly certain they take care of our laundry. But other than that... I mean, you don't even see them them most of the time.

[Though most of that time is spent sitting on a broom.]
And you should see the castle I have classes in, I'm constantly running up and down staircases -- that randomly change direction, mind you -- so I get plenty of exercise. Trust me, the Slytherin dorms are in the dungeons. To get to most anything else you have to go up.

[This kid.]
Wizards certainly seem privileged, regardless. What sports do you play?
voice
I play Quidditch.
voice
What is Quidditch?
voice
It's a sport played on racing brooms. You hit balls at people or try to score by throwing balls through hoops or catching the Snitch. That's my job, that last thing. I'm a Seeker.
voice
I would ask for further details, but I'd hate to bother you with more explanations.
voice
Well, I don't mind explaining Quidditch because it's brilliant.

Alright, so there are seven players per team. One Keeper, he's in charge of guarding the three hoops on his end up of the pitch. Three Chasers, two Beaters, and one Seeker -- that's me. The goal of the Chasers is to toss one of the balls, the Quaffle, through the opposing team's hoops. Each time they manage it, they get 10 points. The Beaters are equipped with bats and their job is to hit these two other balls called Bludgers into the other players and knock them off course, disrupt play, that kind of thing. The Bludgers themselves are enchanted, see, they aim for the players, so it's also the Beaters job to protect their own teammates.
Then the Seeker -- that's me -- has to catch the Golden Snitch. It's the tiniest ball, about the size of a walnut, and is incredibly fast. You're awarded 150 points if you catch it, and that also signifies that the game is over. Usually if you catch the Snitch, it's likely that your team will win. But actually, just this past year in the Quidditch World Cup, the team that caught the Snitch lost! It was an incredible match, but I digress.
...Do you follow me?
voice
Well, there are many things that can be said about Itachi, but that's definitely one of them regardless.]
...I do, actually. It not too hard to follow, as far as sports are concerned.
And you play this on brooms?
voice
[And he really does sound pleased that Itachi gets it.]
Brooms, yes. It makes for a very large playing field.
voice
voice
...I don't know that I would play it underwater, though. I'm not a merman.
voice
I thought perhaps it might be easier to get water breathing tools that to get everyone enchanted brooms. Not everyone has the ability to walk on water like ninjas can.
voice
...Yes, that's because people here are not Jesus.
voice
It's a fairly simple technique, applying chakra to the bottom of the feet. It allows the user to travel on most surfaces. I'm surprised that you, as a wizard, don't have something similar.
voice
[He's not about to go into a whole religious explanation here.]
It's possible I could work out a way to do that. Wizards can't fly on their own, there's no spell for that, and levitation charms don't work on humans, but they can be used on clothes. So maybe floating shoes, for example, though I doubt they'd hold the weight of a person very well. Or I could turn the water solid enough to step on, or maybe freeze it, but that would only work in a limited area...
voice
You have to be able to make any surface work like something solid, or else you won't be stable and grounded. There's no friction if you're floating, meaning that you would have to use too much of your concentration to steady yourself.
