VOICE
[Over the journals a deep raspy voice quiet sings. Yeah that's not going to sound normal to anyone, whether they know Smoker or not.]
♫The ocean sees the beginning of the world,
And the ocean knows the end of the world.
Thus, it calls us towards the way we must take.
Thus, it leads us towards a just world.
Enveloping pain and suffering,
greatly and kindly wrapping them up.
The ocean sees the beginning of the world,
And the ocean knows the end of the world.
Even if I were to disappear,
The omniscent ocean leads the way.
[That's because it sounds like a dirge. It is a dirge, in fact. Smoker is kind of surprised he's alive now.]
[And not especially thrilled at the circumstances of it. Not that he expected anyone to hear him singing about it. He's sure as hell not waiting for nakama to save him though. That's something pirates do. And if Aokiji rescues him again.... Well... he won't. And that is why Smoker is singing the marine song Kuzan hates. So there. And now he'll try to make a post, but with the way he can't tell how well the gloves are gripping the journal or barrel, who the fuck knows.]
I'm stuck on a barrel. In the middle of nowhere. Now what?
[Now what indeed?] I have no idea where this is, but I wish this barrel had rum instead.
And how has your day been, pirates?

At least the laughing doesn't last long, not by normal standards, though for Ikki standards it's basically the equivalent of laughing for hours. Combined with a slight stomach ache and all.]
You are certainly something. But what about your rank and such? Shouldn't those be included for it to properly be official?
[He's still chuckling, though.]
[Voice] + Written
[He scrawls in a quick ^ symbol with the words "VICE ADMIRAL" hovering over his name.]
Does that satisfy due process?
[Voice]
I suppose. Official and legal documents have never been my thing, I don't even know if my birth certificate really exists.
[Voice]
Just for being named Smoker.
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Just trolling.]
At least my mother wasn't crazy enough to give us bad names. The small comforts.
[Voice]
Or drinking.
Or beating up pirates with a baseball bat. It was young, I'll tell you that much.
[Voice]
Though I've yet to try any of those other things, neither I'm interested. What does alcohol have that makes so many people interested in it anyway?
[Voice]
Alcohol is a poisonous relaxant. It dulls your impulse control, so for people who have trouble relaxing it's a great help.
Kind of like smoking as well. It lightly poisons you, but it's relaxing.
[Congratulations Ikki, you now have nearly flawless insight to Smoker's entire characterization. He WANTS to relax more, but he's basically too wound up and a fucking spazz, so it's so hard on him he has to drink and smoke to do so.]
[Voice]
[Said quite stubbornly though he gets what the other means, specially ever since he's in this world.]
Nah, I know what you mean, though I've no desire to relax at the cost of dulling my impulses or poisoning myself... Though poison wouldn't be a problem for me.
I prefer to just sit inside an active volcano, would suggest you to try it, but most likely you wouldn't be able to endure it.
[Voice]
I could, there's just no point to it for me. I'd be more comfortable in a room of smoke.
[Voice]
[He has to admit that.]
None of them was a pirate, in my world, while pirates exist, they usually keep themselves to their own territory. They were just plain bodyguards adults. The only time I was really beaten by an adult before starting my training, was because I fell unconscious due an electric shock and he tied me.
[The memory makes him laugh bitterly and with lots of anger and hate. Surely Tatsumi felt really powerful and what not by beating him up and leaving him almost death, but that didn't change the fact that the man was only able to do so because Ikki was tied up and that before that Ikki had made him double and fall down.]
Maybe your parents were messed up, but they had a great hindsight. And a volcano can also be full with smoke, you know.
[Voice]
They can be, but they aren't necessarily, so it's easier to just fill my office with smoke and stack rocks instead if I so desire.
[Voice]
[Pause, wait, what?]
Stack rocks?
[Voice]
Yeah stack rocks. It's a meditation exercise or something. Doesn't work.
[Voice]
How do you know that it's a meditation exercise if it doesn't work?
[Voice]
Because it's good luck thing. You get to ten to start off the day well. Only I can never make it that high because some damn fool always knocks 'em over.
I do it to practice balance. It's definitely not relaxing.
[Voice]
[A pause.]
I suppose you don't have anything else to do in your current state, so... My father was what many would call a playboy apparently, he brought to bed well over a hundred of women and had at the very least a hundred of children all around the world. My mother was one of his "unfortunate" conquests. Twice. He didn't recognize any of the kids, though, I think most of the women didn't get to see him more than once, but even my mother didn't get to keep him to stay.
Before my mother gave birth to my little brother, my father sent his men to get us, only my brother and me, but she refused and thus we became "runaways" even after she died giving birth. Eventually, he got us, together with all his other sons and brought us all to his mansion.
[A heartbeat.]
Before sending us all to become cannon fodder for a goddess or die trying to do so.
[The amount of bitterness and hate in his words is only equalled by the amount of twisted amusement he has to their fate, including his. It's hard to say who were lucky back then, the ones who died? Or the ones who lived to discover the truth, be manipulated and end with a life tied to Athena?]
Neither it seems to be a good luck thing if you can't never get ten rocks stacked, maybe you should change your method to try to summon good luck.
[Voice]
Fuck. And I thought Whitebeard had a lot of sons.
Tch. I don't care. I'm going to do it my way or not at all.
[Voice]
And Whitebeard adopted his sons, he didn't go around sleeping with women and only remembering about them when he needed some guinea pigs. From what I've heard he's pretty much the opposite of my father.
[Pause.]
Wouldn't it be easier then to not do it if that's one of your options?
[Voice]
I don't believe in taking the easy way out of anything.
[Voice]
And you're now sitting on a barrel in the middle of the ocean to prove your point.
[Voice]
[Hey, it might be stupid, it might be stubborn to the point of masochism, but at least he can admit it!]
