I am decent at languages, though I find myself struggling to say phrases even in languages with which I am quite familiar here. I suspect it has its roots in the many worlds that all come together here and the lack of language barrier.

Are you good at guessing what type of language something is based on writing?

Possibly. I can't make any promises, of course.

[He copies down a few lines from the letter Itachi received here; it's not in any language familiar to Earth, and he's copied several lines because he isn't even sure if it's meant to be read left-to-right or right-to-left, or even horizontally or vertically.]

Doesn't that depend on the language you need?

I don't know the language at all.

Well, at Isla Empieza, they seem to speak English, or an old form of it. I don't know about most other islands. I speak Japanese and English.

I hear them speak in the language I'm used to, which isn't either of those. There's some kind of translation mechanism going on.

How do you even know they're speaking in a different language if you're hearing one you understand?

[Meanwhile Itachi, having been keeping himself busy almost every moment since his rescue, has finally succumbed to fatigue and is taking an unplanned nap on the deck, sitting up against the railing.

He'd only intended to rest a moment, perhaps write a message in his journal, but he'd nodded off as he'd attempted to think of something to say. Now the book lays open beside him, wind turning the pages like an unseen hand.]

[Sasuke doesn't expect to stumble across his brother suddenly -- generally Itachi is someone who has to be found, after all -- but he does, rounding a corner and startling to a stop. I would have asked what languages, but considering I don't even know what languages are said here, I wouldn't know.

We can all understand each other here, and we can read each other's writing. I assume we speak the same language or are translated somehow.

It could be either way, but we don't know what language is said on every world. I just know in my world I can speak and write in Chinese and English. In others there culd be completely new languages we don't know about.

Which begs to wonder, if we are being translated for one another. How exactly is that possible? Maybe the journals?

Everything about this world is a question. The language in my world isn't named like yours are, but we're all able to understand each other. The natives understand us as well.

It's as if someone is making it easy for us.

No. I've never seen anything like it.

I haven't had contact with all of them, but... slow. Alice has a broken arm, but that's healing. The mental trauma, though... the three of us were very good friends, back home, and we were getting even closer before all this happened. We were not prepared to beat each other to within an inch of our lives. All three of us are wrecks, and it's taken a lot of talking between us and a lot of admitting things we've been keeping bottled up to get anywhere near stable again. That includes me.
